JW Marriott Hotel Berlin

Tiergarten Berlin|2.3km from Museum of Unheard (of) Things
The good news is that the Illy coffee from the Illy machine in the bedroom is superb. All the rest is bad, and worse. Marriott seems to believe that lots of marble in the bathrooms is the most important ingredient in making a good hotel. They're wrong. The key to running a good hotel is service. And the service at the Hotel Berlin Central District is awful. As usual, my wife and I are traveling for both business and pleasure -- conferences in London and Berlin, a week of tourism in the wilds of Brittany, and a week of seeing friends, visiting art galleries, etc., in Paris. So we are traveling heavy. We need to carry a lot of clothing -- plus the tools for doing business -- multiple laptops, other communications equipment, etc. When we arrived at the hotel, there was absolutely nobody to help us get our stuff from the taxi into the hotel. In fact, during the entire week we were there, there never was anybody in front of the hotel to help anybody with anything -- including when we left. There is no concierge service. We asked the people at the reception desk to help us on a number of concierge-type issues. They were totally untrained to do so. For example, the first night we were there, we asked for recommendations for a restaurant outside the hotel -- within walking distance. We were given a map, with a circle drawn around an area near Potsdamer Platz. We walked there and found a collection of fast-food joints, such as Burger King, and a couple of pizzerias. She might have asked us if that was what we had in mind. It wasn't. On another occasion, I asked for help in finding a pharmacy. It took the lady about 20 minutes to find the name of a pharmacy and to print out a Google map showing Potsdamer Platz, with an arrow showing where the pharmacy was supposed to be. I wandered around the area for a bit, found nothing, and asked a taxi driver who was parked in a queue. He stared at the map, pulled out his cell-phone, plugged in the German word for ”apothecary”, and showed me where it was. The arrow was in the wrong place. On a number of occasions, I tried to call the reception desk from our room. Nobody ever answered the phone -- with one exception. After ten minutes of waiting, somebody picked up the phone -- and immediately hung up on me. Once again, the Illy coffee is brilliant. But the first day we were there, we were provided two capsules of regular coffee and two capsules of de-caffinated. My wife and I both like real coffee and lots of it. So we asked the people at reception to tell whomever that we would much prefer getting four capsules of real coffee. We also left a note (in German) for the cleaning crew telling them the same thing. The next day we got two capsules of real coffee and two of decaffeinated. I reminded the lady at reception. The following day, we got two capsules of decafinated and one of real coffee. And things got worse from there. After a couple of days, we ran out of Kleenex tissues in the bath room. I left the

Although the location and price for this hotel is great, the rooms themselves were disappointing. When entering the room for our first night I was immediately concerned about the room, with some wall fittings falling off, what seemed to be a lack of smoke alarm, one small bedside lamp and a tv relatively small and far from the bed along with only one alternative chair. Despite these shortcomings the room is quite spacious and beds relatively fine, with somewhat good soundproofing on the windows to stop the noise of the busy streets. Although these negatives would have been outweighed by the positives, we also had no room cleaning our entire 6 night stay which was highly disappointing. We would be awakened by the cleaners relatively early in the morning however usually we slept through this first attempt to clean. Most hotels would assume someone is asleep and come back and clean after they have gone about their day however this did not occur for our entire trip duration. To make matters worse we had no toilet roll replacements and had to source our own. In addition, on our 5th night they did Infact enter our room, they did Not take our overflowing bin, towels from the specified pick up area, change our sheets or make our beds or clean any portion of the room as expected of them. All they did was give us toilet roll. Very disappointing considering the ideal location for the hotel and the price.(although much cheaper than anywhere else in the area so some disappointment to be expected)

Spent 4 nights at this hotel. Slept well each night, no noise from inside or outside the hotel. We were at the back of the hotel. Room basic but clean. Tea and coffee provided and a free safe. Bathroom was good, plenty of hot water and complimentary toiletries. Breakfast was of a good quality with the usual selection of continental and hot options. All staff friendly. Also there is a luggage room, should you need to store any items after checkout

Gay billed hotels should try more not to make guests feel that they accept second best! Rooms billed as something different were in fact impractical and dark. The only clothes rail was too high for me at 5’7” to comfortably reach, and positioned over one of the useable surfaces meant clothes were pulled down in an awkward way. This resulted in a wine glass being broken. I reported immediately. It seems I was charged €5! No notification just taken from my account. How churlish! Open bathroom lacking privacy, with the only hooks in the toilet! No rails for wet towels!? NO tea or coffee facilities whatsoever except for breakfast. Never experienced that before anywhere in the world in all styles of hotel!! I reported what appeared a security breach with a person appearing under the influence of substances knocking on random doors one evening, ours twice in succession. Not only no report back despite asking, not even passed on to successive shift reception staff, who knew nothing about my earlier report! Overall staff were pleasant but reserved and not exceptionally friendly. Often either away from the desk, sometimes waiting 5-10 minutes after ringing bell, or eating at the desk, very unprofessional. Breakfast staff no smiles or friendliness, no welcome. Overall a disappointing stay, which I would not repeat or recommend unfortunately.

Although each hotel has its own different style, the comfort of the bed that I care about first and foremost is obviously unqualified. The bed still has a roller, which will run away from the hardness of the mattress and collapse. Others are quite satisfactory. The traffic is still very convenient, there are many Chinese restaurants around, and the taste is okay. At that time, it was uncertain whether the parking lot marked by Ctrip was charged. When we stayed, there was no parking fee. The parking lot is in a dedicated parking lot behind the hotel. It should be the hotel’s cooperation. You need to see the signs on the specific floors. , The parking ticket given by the hotel should be put in order to avoid communication obstacles with the attendants when leaving. I forgot whether we were on the eighth, ninth or tenth floor, but it dazzled me.

I went to this hotel for a mid-week vacation with my lovely daughter. With an UBER it was about 10 Euro to get to the hotel. Check-in was smooth, the older man behind the desk wasnt overly friendly but rather efficient and that was fine. We paid the tourist-tax and got one room-key for our room. We paid online about 80 Euro a night and we got a room with three beds at the back. The room was clean and simple. A desk with a big-screen TV, a shower-room with a toilet and a wash-basin. The shower was ok but we didnt like the shower-curtains. Also the water would be warm for about five minutes but it didnt bother us. Everyday cleaning with new linen and towels. In the morning you can have breakfast but you have to pay for it. We didnt use it. The hotel is set conveniently in the middle of Berlin near Kurfurstenstrasse and Dam. Near the U-Bahn and busses.
