6:00 p.m. Huangpu River cruise (Huángpǔjiāng Yóuchuán, 黄浦江游船) (about 1 hour)
Start your evening with a cruise on the Huangpu River, where you'll have views of both the older side of Shanghai, Puxi (west of the river) and futuristic Pudong (east of the river). The highlight of the cruise by far is Luijiazui's glistening skyscrapers including the impressive Shanghai Tower, Oriental Pearl TV Tower and Shanghai World Financial Center.
7:00 p.m. The Bund (Wàitān, 外滩) (about 1 hour)
One of Shanghai's most recognizable destinations, the Bund is known for its impressive array of foreign concession-era Art Deco and neoclassical architecture, fusing both Western and Chinese characteristics. The Bund also offers breathtaking views of Pudong's towering and simply astonishing skyline; a seemingly stunning contrast of past and present Shanghai. You will walk the Garden Bridge from the Bund Bull and wander around Huangpu Park, learning about the Bund's history and the New Pudong District from the guide at hand.
8:00 p.m. East Nanjing Road (Nánjīng Dōng Lù, 南京东路) (about 45 minutes)
When people mention Shanghai's Nanjing Road, they're probably talking about East Nanjing Road, a pedestrian shopping street running for blocks between the northeast corner of People's Square and the Bund. If you spend more than a couple days in Shanghai, you'll likely end up pushing your way through the crowds beneath the neon signs and signature Shanghai mix of brand-new high rises and late colonial-period architecture.
