Tortuga Lodge & Gardens by Boena

We spent an amazing 3 nights at the tortuga lodge. The room was lovely overlooking the river and we had our two teenagers in a separate room right next door to us which was perfect. The food was good but the service was really excellent ( big thanks and Pura Vida to Enrique and Luis in particular) The thing that made this a 5 star stay was the excursions and the tour guides. We saw all sorts of amazing creatures, animals and birds in their natural habitat which was truly incredible. Spiders, caimans, parrots, toucans, fireflies, lizards, herons. Spectacular. Eric and Juan our tour guides were so passionate, knowledgeable and good fun. Would love to come back here some day. Top tip - bring some looser fitting long sleeves tops and trousers and lots of bug spray for the rainforest

A lovely spot staffed by pleasant staff. Rooms (ours was upstairs) all have views of the canal and have air conditioning (if you choose to turn it on - and/or a fan. Food very good and staff friendly. Our arrival was at Canó Blanco and it is a good 1.5 hours to the hotel by boat from there. Our ‘induction’ was poor as it was rushed (guide was waiting for others to turn up and they did not) so hard to talk and enquire about the various activities on offer. That is the only thing that could be improved as the activities will vary according to your interests. The walks through the forest (alone or with a guide) are great (and DO put on deet at all hours!). The boat activities to look for wildlife lovely though we might have only done it once (rather than twice) if we had known more. We happened to get a private boat trip on one journey and that was lovely as we could spend more time looking at what interested us. Our couples massage on site was lovely. Recommended. I suspect we were lucky as the weather was perfect with just a drizzle one day. Swimming pool large enough to do some small lengths.

We had an excellent stay at Tortuga Lodge & Gardens! Very comfy beds, nice view, the tours, the staff, the food, the birds & wildlife at the lodge... Everything deserves a 5-star review! Only thing is if you are a smoker: it is prohibited everywhere on the premises (fine will be $500,-)

A fabulous resort adjacent the river and surrounded by lush gardens and forest. Our spacious room with comfortable bed overlooked the river. It was a peaceful retreat. The resort organised various adventures for us, including river cruising, kayaking and walks. Quality meals were served in a delightful outdoor setting. Staff were all great, but we’d like to specially mention Enrique in the restaurant who took great care of us and was always cheerful,

Fantastic location,lodges clean with all you need,beds very comfy.Great no glass in windows only mosquito screen so you hear the ocean and night time wildlife. Food fine and varied.A great experience.Pool very nice and beer cold. Staff helpful and security night man reassuring.

Fantastic experience at the tortuga lodge and gardens! The place is lovely, gardens are beautiful, rooms are very nice and big. You feel like in a small paradise in the middle of nowhere , iguanas 🦎 are crossing the gardens every day, monkeys are jumping in the trees behind the hotel…no cars, no roads. You have paths where you can walk in the middle of the jungles (30 , 40 min walk). We booked the boat experience with the hotel (6:00am), 2h30 in a small boat navigating across the river, that was amazing! We saw monkeys , heron, caimans, toucans…. We will recommend this place with no hesitation 😀 Well done to all the staff and thanks for this great experience!

We spent 3 nights here, our first stop on an 18 night holiday in Costa Rica. We stayed in the Miss Florentina villa and it was worth the extra splurge. Our family of 2 adults and 2 children were so comfortable there. My only comment is while the plunge pool is nice, it was a bit cold. The driving to the area from San Jose is a slow one but the boat ride to the resort is a spectacular introduction to the area and makes the drive so worth while. All the staff and guides were amazing. Food was very good. We do not eat much meat and the plant based and vegetarian options were plenty. We followed up our stay here by staying in some truly 5* resorts (El Silencio, Nayara Tented and Four Seasons). The stay at Tortuga really stand out as what felt like the most authentic and unique part of our trip and might be my favourite part of our trip to Costa Rica.

Our visit to this hotel was one of a kind. When we arrived from the smallest airport we’ve ever been to we got a boat over to the hotel and we were greeted with a welcome drink and friendly staff. We were then shown to our room, which was lovely, with stunning views of the rainforest and the river. Our guide Manuel was amazing, we did two trips with him. He showed us lots of amazing wildlife. I would rate this place very highly.

Outstanding location, outstanding amenities, outstanding service, probably the highlight of any trip to Costa Rica. Talk the night tour and a day time walk through the trails on the property. The food also was excellent and the rooms very large and comfortable. We enjoyed sitting on our covered patio watching the rain.
