Best Hotels in Ottawa

Our family of 4 needed a hotel near the airport between connecting flights so our expectation was not high. We always had good experience with other Hampton Inns so this was just an easy choice, assuming a known quality hotel and also close to the airport. The Good about this hotel - 1. close to airport 2. free shuttle (details to follow) 3. has a couple restaurants just across from the parking lot if you don't want to venture out too far 4. check-in was quick The Bad - 1. Free shuttle only starts at 6am so if you need to catch an early flight you'll need to find a taxi. In our case, we had to pre-book a taxi the night before because we needed to get to the airport at 4:30am. 2. The hotel shuttle was just a plain white van with no signs indicating it's for Hampton Inn. Driver was not in any kind of uniform and when I knocked on his window trying to inquire, he came out and yelled 'What's going on'. Well not exactly what I expect a hotel shuttle driver to identify himself that way. When I asked if he's from Hampton Inn the answer was yes. But in retrospect any random guy can give me the same answer and we just kinda need to trust that driver that he's a legitimate Hampton Inn shuttle driver. The whole short trip to the hotel we were wondering if we would end up getting mugged. Just not a good feeling and I think the hotel can handle this a lot better, how hard is it to give this driver an uniform with a hampton inn logo, or print a hampton inn logo on a piece of paper and put it on the dashboard. At least something to make your shuttle and driver look a little bit more legitimate and make your guests feel a little bit safer. 3. As mentioned earlier we pre-booked a taxi to pick us up at 4:15am, turns out the front desk forgot to book it for us. When we got down to the lobby and looked for the taxi, that's when the front desk guy realized he forgot about it. So we waited for another 10-12 mins for the taxi to come. (taxi fare from hotel to airport was less than $20) 4. Not all electric outlets are working, in our room the one attached to the side table lamp didn't seem to work. Had to search high and low to have enough outlets to charge 4 phones and 4 apple watches. The Very Bad - The mattress was the absolute worse, I have never stayed at a Hampton Inn that have mattresses that dip down about 2 inches and with no support whatsoever. I'm not a big person, but my husband is so the whole night I was sinking and rolling to my husband's side. All I needed was a few hours of sleep between flights and I could not get that because of the mattress. Tossing and turning the whole night and could not find a good position. My back was hurting the next day like I was sleeping on an absolute garbage mattress the night before. We did not use the free breakfast, coffee wasn't ready during our stay, no other amenities were used. We chose this hotel because we were going to a concert and it was so close we could actually walk to and from the venue!! It is also still close enough to take a short Uber ride to local malls and restaurants, not to mention an Outlet mall only a very short walk away. The hotel itself is very busy, but clean and the staff were very friendly. The complimentary breakfast was mostly good, we'd give it an 8 out of 10. Our overall experience was great and we will stay here again.

overall stay was completely good but this building does not have free parking, they charge you 22 dollars for underground parking or outside parking as well and no security for car they said car parking is always at owner's risk. thats only a negative point otherwise room was clean, no disturbance, breakfast was good.

We only stayed for 2 nights (Thursday and Friday), and HIGHLY recommend for the rooms. The included breakfast is ridiculous. The breakfast room needs to be double the size to accommodate the number of guests that are trying to either - get their breakfast OR try and find a table to eat their breakfast. The model they have is NOT efficient for how busy this hotel is. Toast your own bread (it takes 3 times through to get it a bit brown) and make your own waffles?? no no no. When there are 20 people lined up, have your staff make a batch of toast and a batch of waffles and put them in warming trays. Just my thoughts. We would stay again, but would skip the breakfast and head to Denny's.

I rarely stay in hotels however I came to Ottawa to celebrate a kilometerstone (milestone for Americans ;-) birthday and decided to splurge a little. I was able to talk a friend into coming with me. I first saw this hotel on TripAdvisor, went to their own website and found I could book 4 nights for $119/nt. I spent about an hour looking around some of the big Internet travel sites and found the exact room promoted on one of them for $89! I called the hotel and asked if they price matched. After about 10min of them looking online to find the promo I was looking at, the shift supervisor approved the match! I had to agree to pay for all 4 nights whether I used them or not. I didn't care because I was coming! The location is GREAT, next to TransCanada/417 highway. That was very convenient as I had to drive to Carp the next morning and that was the highway I used. I was on that expressway 2 minutes after leaving the hotel! Check in was fast and efficient. The person checking me in was confused when I told her I was on a $89 promo, she had not heard about it but eventually found some notes on my reservation in the computer. Even though there was free parking, I wanted to leave the car at the hotel most days and take public transit downtown. I had heard even with the government shut down, parking was scarce and expensive in the city center. On check in I happened to ask how close a bus stop was to take us downtown as I wanted to do the double deck Grayline tour on Sunday and Monday. The desk clerk said I didn't need to take the city bus as the double deck bus picked up their guests every morning at 9am at the hotel! BONUS! I'm glad I asked. Our room was on the fourth floor and included two very comfortable Queen beds with 7” mattresses and fluffy comforters, a very nice bathroom, 40” LCD TV, small refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. They also had WiFi that worked great! There was only one ceramic cup and one plastic cup for the first night, we would have liked two ceramic cups but it was too late to call down and ask. Both my friend and I noted how quiet the surroundings were. Almost the entire floor had booked rooms for two nights but we didn't hear much noise. Also, we were on the back side of the hotel not facing the street or highway so that may have contributed to it. If I were to return, I would ask for a first floor room on the same side of the hotel as each had direct access to the parking lot. Although the room was very clean and comfortable, there were not enough electrical plugs and the only available one to plug in my cell phone and computer was so worn out that the cables would not stay in the plug. I always bring extra cables, I had a long extension that ran from near the head of my bed to the table at the other end of the room. Without it, I would not have been able to charge my devices. The hotel is very clean, the front desk is very welcoming and the bed is very comfortable. The location is very good, opposite the museum and a bridge to the Capitol Hill, the bridge is very beautiful. The hotel parking is 17.5 yuan after tax for one day, and the car can enter and leave at will during the stay. After check-out, you can stop until 5 pm (but can only stop, can't enter after going out).

Overall this hotel is of good value with the cleanliness and proximity to downtown Ottawa. The hotel was opened to business in 2019. I redeemed from my Aeroplan for the 2 nights stay, and I paid $25/night for parking. Room - The room itself is clean with quite spacious bathroom. It is equipped with small fridge and there’s a microwave over the counter which is good. Amenities - it has a swimming pool and it’s clean with the adjacent patio and you can go outside which is good. It served complimentary breakfast with good selection of food. Plenty of seatings within the dinning area. Parking - OK but a bit tight in the parking stall however even it’s quite fully booked we are able to find parking. While we stayed I’ve found it interesting cleaning wasn’t done during the first night. The attendant made a mistake to our room and we ended up knocking the wrong room but it was an honest mistake I believed. What I’ve found it interesting though is right across diagonally across is a homeless shelter so just be prepared across the corner of the stress diagonally there’s a homeless shelter and be prepared for that. It didn’t bother me but you may end up having the room view of that depending on where your room is located. I’m sad to see so many of them and especially during the pandemic still seeing them on the street is a hit heartbreaking for me. This is a relatively new hotel and suitable for family and I’d recommend.

The Chateau Laurier is the iconic hotel in Ottawa. Unfortunately, during Covid, it was not the greatest experience. First, no housekeeping. Second, no valet parking and hotel parking lot was always full so we had to park about 10 minutes away. Third, inconsistent service and no room service. The product is probably better in normal times but price was too high for value. Positive was larger room with a view of the Canadian parliament buildings.

The hotel is simply bad on all counts - cleanliness, sleep quality, unexplainable bill charges. But the main thing for me was that the cleaning staff came into our room when there was a “Privacy Please” sign on our door while we were out. I have been traveling for work since 2005, weekly, and the DND sign was always something that ensures your privacy in any hotel, any country I have been to. The funniest thing is that the hotel declared they would not be cleaning the room for the duration of my stay in the pre-arrival email, which made me happy, and then they still came in to clean it, despite the sign. I called the front desk immediately when I saw it, created a big issue, and they told me that the clean-up was requested and SHEDULED by me. I explained it was impossible and how upset I was, and guess what - NOTHING happened to make things better for us, absolutely nothing. The manager did not call to apologize, there was absolutely no reaction to this, pretty big in my opinion, issue. So yes, hotel folks, if you are reading this – I did bring it to the attention of the staff. Compared to that, the rest was not as outrageous, but still quite bad and generally important to the quality of the stay: - Cleanliness: When we arrived, the toilet seat was dirty, there was pubic hair in the shower and the shower gel dispenser was empty. I did not want anyone in my room, so I sanitized all impacted surfaces, decided to use the little soaps for the showers instead of the gel and moved on. Ironically, when they broke in to clean my room, they still did not fill up the shower gel! That made me laugh when I stopped crying. - Beds: As another review here mentioned, beds are terrible. It is like sleeping on a water bed, you can feel every little movement, and between that and the old pillows, you are lucky if you get any sleep at all. - Room charges: Unlike any other hotel, this one did not send the email with the bill on the morning of the departure. Naturally, after what I have been through there, I decided to check the bill before I leave instead of just leaving like we do. I had booked using points, so my bill was supposed to only have parking charges + tax. However, when I got the print out, there was an additional $38 CAD per night charge just called “Room”, which the front desk could not explain. The further the conversation went, the more defensive the front desk representative got, until eventually they angrily removed the charges. Not even an apology or any sign of regret that there was a mistake, but a whole lot of attitude and pushback on the paying customer who happens to also be a platinum elite at this chain. Still remains to be seen what ends up being on the credit card – I am seeing some strange charges in the ‘pending’ status. The location of the hotel is very good, very close to attractions such as Capitol Hill, within walking distance. Parking is not in the hotel, first go to the front desk or the welcome to inquire, if you can't find it yourself, give a thumbs up to the handsome welcome guy, and help to park in the designated parking lot of a nearby hotel. The room is average, worthy of the price.
