Hotel is new, close to a metro station. There are grocery stores and restaurants around, including many options within the metro station. Breakfast is Chinese but can be altered to become 白人菜 😄. Seems like not many foreigners stay here and staff does not speak English, but we managed to comunicate well via translation apps. Rooms are cleaned daily, bottled water is provided. Wifi is great. Everyone is polite and welcoming and they catered to all our needs. P.S. Special thanks to the lady working in the kitchen, who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. She is awesome!

SSAW Hotel Shanghai Hongkou

I stayed here for just over 3 weeks while completing research at SJTU, and had a fabulous experience! My room was very spacious and very comfortable, and the hotel had all the amenities I was hoping for in a long-term stay. Free laundry, a fitness room, a mini fridge, stable WiFi, etc. I also loved the breakfast selection - I looked forward to my yogurt with dragonfruit every morning! The staff were all very professional, nice and accommodating, which I deeply appreciated because it’s stressful being a foreigner with limited Mandarin abilities in Shanghai. The vast majority of hotels in China are not even permitted to host foreign guests due to government restrictions. The SSAW staff welcomed me, helped me extend my reservation, and helped me with paperwork for my Chinese business Visa. The location was a bit challenging at first, because the closest subway station is around a 20 minute walk. But once I was able to access the ** app, I could bike everywhere easily, which I loved. Also, just a minute walk away is Aini Bayi, a conglomeration of Xinjiang restaurants and a bakery, which were all great. There are also a variety of convenience stores and snack shops within walking distance, as well as ATMs and a post office. Great experience overall, I would stay here again if I return to Shanghai!
