Yeouido Park Centre, Seoul - Marriott Executive Apartments

Yeouido Seoul|1.39km from Times Square Mall
This used to be my favorite in Seoul, and I stuck with it even though the furniture, walls and floors were so banged up even 5 years ago that the place needed a renovation. My last stay has convinced me it is time to give up on this place. Where the issues in the past used to be mostly cosmetic, now they are fundamental. First, our rooms—see attached photos. Dirty with defective windows (bathroom and bedroom, with an obvious impact on the room temperature). Clearly no one had cleaned that shower properly in a long time, and the floor manager did not check properly. Clearly also no one had checked the condition of the windows in a long time, or (my suspicion) had decided not to do anything about it. Remarkable the response of the staff when shown the photos of the ice: ”It was especially cold last night”—as if temperatures below -10 degrees Centigrade were not common in Seoul *every winter*. We changed rooms, the new one was better and got a thorough cleaning before we moved in, but cleaning continued to be hit and miss, and the windows in that room were leaky as well. The bedroom in particular, with windows on two sides, had a persistent icy draft. We made it bearable by putting lots of pillows and cushions against the windows and using tissues, towels and packing tape to seal some of the gaps. (I still cannot believe that this was needed, in Korea, in 2021, in a building that is maybe 15 years old...) Usually if something is this badly wrong, you would expect a proactive effort to compensate the guest. Not so in this case. We finally managed to get some compensation, but why the guest should have to push for this when the hotel clearly did not live up to its end of the bargain—a clean room that offers protection from the elements, at least—is a mystery to me. During this entire process, no senior management was ever seen. It seems like the MD never interacts with the guests—which perhaps explains the state of disrepair. Nor does his direct report. Everything was left to junior managers without decision power. And just as I thought we had somehow reached a livable resolution, the final chapter: The hotel had pre-charged my credit card for the entire stay at the beginning—for 3 weeks. No problem, one would think, except that the final charge was lower because of the compensation offered. So what did they do? Charge back the original amount and the re-charge for the new total. Predictable result: I lost about 5% of the total sum in credit card transaction fees, or about 1 night's worth. When I pointed this out during check-out, I was told this was the only way they could do it. So in sum: room condition, cleanliness, complaint management, and accounting were all deficient. So on everything that really counts as basic, performance was abysmal. In retrospect, we should have moved out.

I highy recommend this hotel as next to line 5 station, airport bus stop, 3 BIG shopping centres, 4 convenience stalls! Very good location with train lines as well as 24 hours eateries (like LA Bab) in the opposite street & nearby local market. The room slightly smaller but go with marriot management so can feel the 4/5 stars vibes! The train sounds are soft that i can sleep even we are staying low floors! The staffs are wonderful to help us call our driver and try to make our special request met. Very secure, clean and even a microwave at Level 3! I would love to go back again for my next trip. Duco, Sean & another of their colleague who can speal good english are wonderful to assist us but don't know how I can give them a compliment to Marriot!

I stayed here to go to a concert at Gocheok Sky Dome, and it was very easy to get to the dome. The area around Yeongdeungpo Station was convenient as there were restaurants, cafes, and convenience stores. There are a lot of people and it seems safe! Coffee shops were also open until late, which was helpful. It's in Times Square, and Lotte Department Store is also connected to the station, so it's convenient for shopping. I was surprised that if I took the wrong exit from the station, the atmosphere and scenery changed completely, but I recommend exiting from exit 5! It's a bit of a walk from the station, but it's a flat road, so it's perfectly fine even if you have a carrier. The shower room is too stylish and see-through, so be careful if you're staying with two people (lol) Also, it's so stylish that the shower curtain isn't the perfect length, and for some reason there are gaps, so the bathroom gets flooded with water. So be careful! Other than that, it was a great hotel that I was very satisfied with. thank you very much!

The Hotel itself is lovely. The building is neat and clean. The rooms are well designed and comfortable and the bathrooms are spacious and nicely detailed. UNFORTUNATELY: #1 The staff doesn't speak conversational English. #2 There's no laundry service #3 The POOL - part of the reason I picked this hotel - was CLOSED the entire time I was was there (during summer heat). A number of days during my stay, the temperature was sweltering. #4 The room amenities: TV, Windows computer and all other writing was in Korean. This hotel - as well as most public South Korean facilities - need to embrace basic English as just about everyone else in the world uses it. Chinese, Japanese, all of the UK, Filipinos... just about everyone uses English and I feel that South Korea makes it a point not to embrace English as a way of perpetuating a form of xenophobia and isolationism. Considering how much trade SK does with the US and UK, this is absolutely astonishing and disheartening. I imagine how much money I would have spent there if I could understand what I could spend money on. Part of me feels like they don't care. I really liked the Ciel Hotel and because I frequent places I'm comfortable with, I would stay there again. but I really hope service is improved.

The location was good because it was close to the station. Everything was good except that the water was not well controlled. Before coming out, leave the foam cleansing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
