I truly wanted to love this property and stay but just couldn't. We cross the country several times a year for decades and stay in MANY hotels. Every once in awhile we go off the beaten path and do not stay with a chain or top notch hotel. This one had so much charm and character and amazing views and definitel possibilities but it so needs some love and attention to return it to its original glory. It is definitely sadly neglected and let go. Just a few things like maybe close a section at a time and update with some Renos. Nothing fancy...paint and a refresh. The carpets in the hallways were all old and rugged, I'm surprised OSHA didn't say that was unsafe. The grounds are beautiful, just need some real love and tic to restore them to what was once beautiful and magnificent, worthy of its ancestors. Open the restaurant! Our room was cute, but a light bulb in bath out, picture missing from the wall. The lamps were old and dented and the shower was with an old curtain, missing shower curtain rings and in dreadful need off some paint. At first we thought maybe they left the rooms in this section because they were so old. ******* should know this was a subpar stay. I almost feel taken advantaged of because although this hotel offered low rates, I did not feel safe here and that's not cool. They did give a coupon until midnight to use for a free drink of wine or beer which was a nice thing to do. Almost as if they know it needs repairs and updates and they felt bad.
