Hunter Valley Resort, Hunter Farm Adventure Centre & 4 Pines at The Farm

We stayed for three nights and used this trip to relax with a few days trips made (Hunter Valley Gardens, Wildlife Park, and a half-day wine tour). We stayed in a king room with twin beds. It was very clean and comfortable in temperature and environment. The DVD library at reception was extensive and provided an array of genres. The TV was easy to use (with built in DVD player), although small compared to what we are used to as a society now. We had breakfast on-site at 4 Pines at the Farm each morning, which provided a variety of delicious options. There is a $15 breakfast voucher included if booking direct, this cover most of the breakfast bill per person but you will most likely have to pay a difference. The lunch and dinner menu also had a lot of nice options. I personally loved the seasoning on the side of hot chips and the watermelon daiquiri. There was also a nice and calming view outside, where we ate each time. The food & beverage staff were lovely people who assisted with no complaints/hesitation regarding my food allergy. The reception staff were helpful throughout the stay with suggestions of things to do (thank you Katrina). Although, the person who initially checked us in, had very few words to say, only helping us find our way to our room on the map and distributing the vouchers for our stay. Though, this did not negatively impact our stay. I would stay here again.

We had a favourable first impression at the room/ property but after 1 night you’ll start to see all the issues. We love the fact that it is a sustainable resort but there’s a lot to be desired after 5 nights in their suite. Day 1: Checkin was rushed, reception didn’t explained the room amenities provided with the room type we’ve booked-in (spa suite). Room did not come with standard amenity kit (no cotton pad no toothbrush no sanitary pad etc) upon check in. I had to call to ask for toothbrushes. We didn’t know that the room came with a working fireplace, free still & sparkling water, no phone directory in the room / label on the phone. And most importantly how to get room serviced or not. when we had an issue about the room not being serviced they asked us repeatedly did we put the doortag outside (we didn’t - which is the correct way to get the room serviced). If this is important, then they should make it a clear point to explain this during checkin. We had dinner at the bar, we ordered a cauliflower salad to share (among other foods). It was so disappointing to received a big bowl of spinach and 3 small pieces of dried chicken breast. Since the title of the salad is cauliflower salad, we were unimpressed that it was the one ingredient that was missing from that bowl. The salad cost almost $30 for what seems to be a bag of baby spinach salad that you could buy from coles or wollies for $3. Oh yes and dressing on that was also on existent. Upon clearing our plates, bar staff didn’t asked us how the food was & she was quite abrupt. Day 2: Had breakfast and staff was friendly and efficient. We also noticed that there’s a sign that says ‘kids club’ which we then asked the reception where it was which they then explained it was an adjoining room that had games, colouring books etc for kids (it’s school holidays) which we thought was a great idea and our son did went in to play and enjoyed it. Came back to the room, we noticed that the room wasn’t made and only the towels were changed (we didn’t request this). So we thought that they only service the rooms every 2nd night being sustainable an all. So we didn’t thought much about it, we also noticed that the maintenance didn’t come to turn on the fireplace so we followed up on that. And we had that running before they end the shift at 3pm. Honestly that was the saving grace of this trip. The fireplace is a beautiful addition to the room especially during winter. We also requested for another tv control as there’s 2 tv in the suite but only 1 remote. Day 3: Breakfast, and we noticed that the ‘kids club room’ is now converted to a meeting space which my son wasn’t very happy about. I don’t understand why they would introduce a service but then took it away midway through our stay which is still within school holiday period. There was no explanation given. Frustrating to say the least. Room was not serviced again. We began to wonder why and quickly peeked at the room across us that is currentl

What an amazing place to stay! These TripAdvisor reviews led us here so the least we could do was write one of our own. There's a couple of reviews here whining about various levels of nonsense with my favourite being one 'guest' complaining about ants walking around outside heaven forbid. Well sadly I can't say we saw any ants but what we experienced was first rate accommodation and first rate service particularly from Katie who greeted us in reception. She was very attentive, showed us to our rooms and walked us through the heating and cooling options and a few other aspects of our stay. She seemed to actually enjoy her job and it showed as our conversation was very warm and friendly and we immediately felt welcomed. We were looking to book a table at the adjoining restaurant - Il Cacciatore - but unfortunately for us it was fully booked that night however we had left it quite late in terms of making a booking. We decided on the take out options instead which afforded us the ability to have dinner in our room with the TV on and ugg boots adorned. Not a bad second prize indeed. We had a cheese pizza, duck pizza and chicken boscaiola. I have to say the boscaiola was the best I've ever had and the pizzas were pretty good too. I figured the portions wouldn't be huge but actually we found them very generous indeed. As for the room, what more could we want? We stayed in the Saddler suite and upon entering, my wife immediately looked at me as if to say ”how much did you really pay for this”? I don't think she could quite believe how reasonably priced it was. We had a lounge/dining area and kitchenette with a separate main bedroom. A great feature in my opinion was there's actually 2 doors separating the bedroom from the main room thanks to a short corridor between the two. The bathroom was larger than we expected too. Everything was very clean and in good working order. We brought our Chromecast along but there was no need at all as we had a smart TV running Android TV anyway which worked great. And FRESH milk in the fridge! I cannot recall a time I've stayed in any hotel where I've seen that! The room was basically silent at night and we all had a great sleep. The bed was very comfortable, the linen clean and of a high quality. I don't know that I'd love to sleep on the sofa bed but hey, with a 4yo daughter who'd be happy sleeping sideways on a staircase, she loved it and was amazed that a couch could turn into a bed 😂. Our deck was quite large and I could look out while my daughter wandered the vineyard feeding ducks and keeping an eye out for an elusive wombat that Katie had told her about. Sadly no wombat was sighted but I'm told he still wanders the grounds to this day. I can't really say I was pleasantly surprised because our stay here wasn't all that surprising at all thanks to these reviews. We figured it'd be great... And it was! Before we've even left we're figuring out another excuse to come and stay again. Thank you so much to Kati

The Lane Retreat

Really enjoyed our three night getaway. Cabins are new (Oct 2023) so everything is in good working order. About 60 new cabins in groups of 2, 3 and 4. A couple of single ones. Big bathrooms, aircon, fridge and kitchenette. Cabins are not located on the Bimbadgen estate but about 5min drive away. To check-in, guests are sent an email with the check in code. Not a fan - very impersonal and makes an early check-in or late checkout difficult. No phones in the room so relies on guests having a mobile phone. Privacy / Make up my room sign that guests hang on the door tends to fly off the door. Pool lacks shade and privacy as the shrubs surrounding the pool are only new plantings. Cold filtered water and ice machine are located adjacent to the pool so 24 x 7 access but a bit of a trek depending upon where your cabin is located. Our opening special package came with breakfast, two wine tastings and a bottle of Bimbadgen sparking. Breakfast included yogurt, muesli/granola, bakery items and juice. Coffee machine and pods are in the room. quiche and condiments all of very high (foodie) quality. Aluminium bottles are provided to guests to refill which is a nice touch. The cabins have a little deck with two chairs and a low line coffee table - we moved our dining table out there to have breakfast. We took paints and canvasses with us to paint the view of the range whilst having a glass of bubbles. Loved our wine tasting at Bimbadgen, Neil was delightful and educated us on the finer points and myths of wine tasting. The Bimbadgen Sparking Rose is stunning! Dined at Esca for lunch - couldn’t fault it. We had several kangaroo sightings which was nice as they tend to graze on the property around dusk. All in all a lovely getaway in the Hunter. Definitely will come back.
Oaks Cypress Lakes Resort

Stayed at the Oaks Cypress Lakes resort, first time staying at the resort and playing the spectacular 18 hole golf course. Wife very impressed with facilities and the attentive staff, nothing was to much trouble. Visited both the Vines restaurant and the bistro, Vines restaurant was first class Sri Lankan inspired fine dining, which was gastronomically different. Bistro menu and food extensive and serves plenty full . Rooms were very spacious and clean. Front counter staff were extremely helpful with booking and advice for tours and attractions. Return visit in the near future.

Spicers Guesthouse

We had a group booking and everyone very much enjoyed their stay! Special mention to Phil, Tom, Emma, Brandon, Ruth - many who are familiar faces from May last year. The personable and friendly staff always add to the experience. Bar menu was great for a light meal and our dinner at eRemo was fantastic. Sitting by the fires are a great way to spend the evening. Breakfast options were excellent. Room was great and very comfortable - exactly what we needed for the time we were there. Bathrooms are on the smaller sides, but are beautifully designed and its not like you spend much time in there anyway! It has all the amenities you need when you are around the grounds, especially the insect repellent! Some additional lighting during the night might be a good addition, especially after it rains. It is also great that there are ground level rooms available at request for those who may not do well with steps as there are no lifts available. We are very much looking forward to another stay!

When I checked in, it actually showed that the order was cancelled. The front desk staff were very nice and handled it in a timely manner, allowing me to check in smoothly. The hotel restaurant is good, the location is good, and the sanitary configuration of the room is the standard of a motel.
