Beach Balance

Beach Balance is a great budget hotel for people who can sleep through heavy noise levels. It is decently clean, sometimes has hot water, sometimes has Wi-Fi, is centrally located and on 5th Avenue, is only 3 blocks from the ADO station, and 4 blocks from the ferry to Cozumel. The biggest negative about this hotel is that it's located across the street from an open air nightclub. I measured the noise level at 80 decibels inside the room with the windows and doors closed. At this level, it was hard to hear the television in the room. The other negative was some of the reception staff (young woman glued to phone and ignoring guests) and the check in process. During check in, they tried to claim I hadn't paid for the room yet and attempted to get me to pay again. I was able to pull my receipt from ******* and show it to them, so I'd advice others to have their receipt before check in. Overall, it can be a decent option at $50 or less per night, but I'd look for a better hotel if the price is higher.

I got to the hotel around 9:30 pm and am supposed to check in but no one was there. I had been told there is a lock box with a key in it so they gave me the lock box, I opened it, and no key. I called the hotel rep who was talking to me on WhatsApp and she had to come to the hotel from her home to check me in. This process took about an hour. Such an inconvenience after an entire day of travelling to wait an hour to check into your hotel room. I get to the room to take a shower and the water starts leaking all over the bathroom due to a faulty shower head. This was adding to my frustration.

A little bit confusing at the beginning in the front desk, but any the end everything was smooth and easy. Love it !!!

If you are after a cheap hotel in the centre of Playa Del Carmen, there are loads of other options. The location is good, if you don’t mind the noise, but that is the only positive for this hotel. I wish I got more photos of the squaller, from the photos you can see where the AC leaked and the electrics are coming away from the walls. What you can not see is the tiny bathroom, the tiny “double” bed. The curtains that don’t keep out any light. Not only did the AC leak all over, it would make loud clicking noises. The noise from the street was to be expected so I won’t complain about that. The shower wouldn’t turn off fully and dripped keeping me awake to listen to the AC all night. The WiFi was bad, the room was flooded with street lights. The bed was uncomfortable and small. There was no hot water, the shower leaked into the room. Breakfast was at a sister hotel down the block, but as expected was terrible. After our first night of no sleep, we complained to no avail, so decided to check out a few days early. The hotel staff were pleasant, but unable to refund the days we were no longer staying, so resolution has been sought though *********** (if this doesn’t work my CC will resolve the matter). The hotel is cheap and in a good location, but still doesn’t offer good value for money, it should have been half the price, especially with the alternatives on offer. There are loads of other options, in Playa Del Carmen, for around the same price. I just wish others had been more honest with their reviews on ***********, so that I didn’t waste my time with a BFH hotel.

This place is a dump! See through curtains. Toilet seat didn’t fit. Supposed to have a King sized bed got a full sized. Asked for late checkout went to eat and came back the maid was in the room, and took the left overs out of the fridge.

Had a mixup and had to book this at 10 pm for the night. Understanding that, at least I had a place to stay. No hot water (but it’s not unbearable), no internet. Such is travel at times. Good location with a nice view right above 5th Ave.

I booked the stay and paid in advance on **********, but when I arrived the hotel had no rooms available. This left me scrambling to find a room at 8pm, after a 6 hour bus ride a couple days before NYE. I contacted ********** for a refund, and after a couple days they got back to me and said that they were not able to contact the Hotel and my refund was denied according to the cancelation policy. Except I didn't cancel, I was there attempting to stay in the room I paid for and was denied.

First of all if you need quiet to sleep, RUN from this hotel. Loud music all day from 10:00AM to 1:30AM. Not even muffled. May as well have had the bar put their speakers in my room. Bathroom door was falling apart. Terrible maintenance. The shelf you have in the closet to store stuff also houses the piping for the A/C so it dripped onto My clothes. The bathroom is microscopic and in severe need of maintenance. The shower water kept good temperature but shot out sideways. Also the shower leaked out into the floor of the room. The A/C took forever to cool the room down but it did eventually become comfortable. The ceiling fan had only one very slow speed. All the fixtures were extremely old and bubbling. I took pictures. The light fixture above the bathroom sink was jury rigged. Not mounted properly. The staff were friendly and the maid did a good job. The toilet seat was wrong size for toilet and flimsy. It actually moved down into the bowl when I sat on it. Electrical outlets were hanging lose. The best thing about this hotel is it’s location. It’s so close to all the action. But that’s part of why it’s so loud as well. Oh, and last but not least, I paid for a king sized bed and got a full sized bed. Not right.
