I had a five night stay in Sofitel Sipopo in January 2024, and had a very positive experience overall. The room was very comfortable and clean, the AC and everything in the bathroom worked perfectly well. I found the bed very comfortable. I had breakfast at the hotel four times and lunch a couple of times. Breakfast was generally satisfactory with plenty of choices. The first time I had lunch, the grilled shrimps were fantastic - some of the best I've ever had. I went back for my last lunch to order the same, and while still very good, they were prepared somewhat differently, and with too much sauce. Staff were generally friendly - especially at the bar.

I visited the Sofitel Malabo Sipopo to play the only 18 hole golf course on the Island, with my colleague whilst visiting the area for work. Eric the GM and All of his team in the hotel and in the Golf centre took excellent care of us from the time we arrived to the time we left. The Golf equipment hire was more than adequate and the friendly pro shop attendants helped us with some basic's tee's, balls, gloves, umbrella, towels etc....as well as preparing our hire clubs and trolley. The practice facilities was very good, a large outdoor driving range with practice balls included in the green fee's, with Putting & chipping practice area. The course was a real treat, front 9 encircling the back 9 lovely views and a varied range of Par 5's, 4s' 3's. Stunning fairways calved out of the jungle with many old featured Tree's making the course a good and enjoyable challenge whilst focusing to keep your ball in play especially off the Tee, the distance markers were in good condition to judge approach shots, many of the raised Tee boxes provided fantastic views of the fairways & holes in front of you, Tee areas and the fairways were well maintained. The greens are quite small and hard so judging where to land the ball in the aprons to stay on the green also helped to enhance the challenging course. The greens them selves were in very reasonable condition considering the location and climate, mostly the ball rolled true. After the Golf we enjoyed some well earned refreshments around the pool area which had a vibrant vibe, people, friends and families all enjoying the facilities and pool bar. We also had a quick stroll along the Hotels private beach, all in immaculate condition, with lovely views of the ocean. In conclusion, this is a must visit for any avid Golfer who visits the Island. Playing Golf in the Jungle was a unique and highly memorable occasion, supported by a great Couse and first class hospitality from the the Hotel and Golf Staff. I will certainly visit again next time in Malabo, and hopefully stay at the Hotel itself.

Beautiful hotel surrounded by the sea and a fabulous green. 16 km far from the capital of Equatorial Guinea, Malabo. Peaceful place where you can work in a quiet ambience and at the same time enjoy a beautiful swimming pool and fine sand beach. Nice breakfast for all tastes, a very well furnished bar and a smiling presence of the personnel that make you feel very welcome

A lot of things about staying at this hotel didn't go very smoothly in my experience. I emailed the publicly available email address several times to arrange an airport pickup car/shuttle, but no one ever responded. Therefore, right before the stay I called and set it up with the front desk and received confirmation, but then no car was there when I arrived. The new airport doesn't yet have ATM's or money exchange facilities, so it's quite the hassle to get to the hotel without local currency available. The hotel grounds are pleasant, but quite far away from the city. I used the restaurant and bar and had a nice dinner (pizza) and beer, service there was good. I didn't personally use the golf facilities, but other guests I talked to communicated that it was a well-maintained course for the area.

The hotel has aged a bit but the staff is very kind and attentive. The wifi is working very well. The pool area as well as the beach are well maintained. On top, the gardens are very nice. The food is quite good and the servings are generous: be prepared, though, that meals may look different than the day before. Rooms are spacious and offer the usual amenties. The interior design of the lobby mirrors the country’s heritage and is very tasteful. I particularly want to thank Jordy and Diego from the front desk who were not only very kind and full of smiles but also very professional! The gym needs a make-over and a few more machines for a proper workout.

Upon arrival I went to restaurant, I patiently waited an hour and no food no drinks. I asked for the wine I ordered and never received it. I finally decided to leave and go to my room and magically my food appeared. I didn’t eat it, it was way too late to eat at that point. The hotel was a ghost town. The people working were not professional, worked as thought they were busy but I didn’t see anyone staying in the hotel. The second night I ordered room service, food was burned. Third night I ordered and after waiting an hour i called to check on it. They said the order was never placed and the guy that took my order left for the day! After 3 phone calls and someone visiting my room I received my meal 2.5 hours later. (Still missing food I ordered). The staff was not trained, dirty trays with food sat in hallways for more than 24 hours, no work out room with ample equipment and the spa was empty. Worst Sofitel experience I have had. I would not recommend it to anyone. It seemed dirty overall.

The staff are not friendly, very hard to see their smile. The breakfast are horrible, I stayed here for almost 3 months never satisfied, uncooked food, delayed of food, poor hygiene, spoiled food, and not presentable.

Am writing with a heavy heart of a young mother. A work plus family trip with our baby turned into a nightmare. Do not know where to start. This hotel needs to pull up its socks, only yada yada yada talk, all talk and no work. We gave in our laundry and the laundry woman was so spiteful for local people here, she forced herself in our room and tried to hold our baby multiple times, not a great idea, without our consent. The laundry comes back with a disgusting smell like of dead animals, like they have been dried with some dead rats or somethings. We handwashed everything after work n baby slept off in the bathing tub. The breakfast was what made us land on the hospital with the baby. Absolutely disgusted by the old, stinking, rotten, stale items in breakfast. Flies and roaches all over bakery items, flies all over fruits, expired yogurts. Dishes smelling same of dead rotten animals. There were some people there who looked regulars but after speaking to couple they said they had no choice. Dirty plates, that stink of rotten and stale meat, unhygienic food, staff that had skin allergies on hands and palms and still serving food was what landed me and my baby in hospital. Its more than 5 weeks but we haven't recovered from the infections and trauma. I had given a staff my bubbs milk bottle to get warm water but since I did not receive it after 20 minutes I went to the kitchen. Oh Horrors!! The Sofitel kitchen was a horror, it stank like a morgue, where dead meat has been stinking for decades. The staff were so disinterested in us right on the second day when we just used their restaurant but brought in all our food. It's so disgraceful that Sofitel Island hotel is such a dirty unhygienic place. I urge everyone here to do their blood work done after eating or drinking in this hotel. Zero standards of hygiene and I highly doubt they are compliant with any health and hygiene protocol. We wanted to see the General Manager but were told he is unavailable, the front desk lady was too rude and called herself the manager,Olanda. We had a failed trip with our baby and I landing up in the hospital and rude staff. Never ever ever going back to Sofitel again and shall make sure to tell our organisation about this to either cut the contract with them for depyta officers or officially raise a complain with Accor group. Mothers with babies and kids, and also people in general please be safe and keep getting your blood work done after you visit this horror of a hotel.
