Kyoto Villas

After staying at minshukus, ryokans and western-style hotels over the last several days, it was a pleasure to end our Japan stay with 2 nights at Kyoto Machiya Fukune. The 2 of us appreciated the extra space of the Sangen machiya compared to our previous lodgings to just chill out, especially when soaking in your personal outdoor hot water (not onsen) bath or the indoor hinoki bath and looking out onto the compact zen garden. Beds were comfortable and bathrooms modern and clean. The included mini-bar (Asahi beer, sake, soft drinks and water) was an unexpected bonus! The welcome tea ceremony with traditional sweets (much better than that offered with the included entry price at the Okochi Sanso Garden in Arashiyama) was a far superior greeting than fronting a hotel reception desk even if one has to wait (about 10 mins) for Miki to arrive (which was forewarned in the pre-stay info); we were informed of our security code when we rang (using the complimentary phone in the separate arrival area) and could access the machiya while waiting. Miki was very helpful with local restaurant and sightseeing tips. Excellent pre-stay information was provided via email from Kyoto Machiya Fukune. While we didn’t use the laundry (complimentary) we did make use of the locker, which we found could store 2 large suitcases and 2 carry-on luggage with room leftover for shopping bags. It cost us ¥1500 for taxi/uber from JR Kyoto stn to the machiya. Once there it is only several minutes’ walk to various train stns or bus stops. Nishiki mkt’s western entrance is about a 10min walk away. This was my 3rd time in Kyoto with the goal to visit sights we hadn’t seen previously like Arashiyama’s bamboo grove and Fushimi Inari shrine. The Randen line’s Shijo-Omiya stn is just over 10mins walk away and the tram takes you into the heart of Arashiyama’s shopping *****, the Kimino forest and near the Tongetsu-kyo bridge. Then take your time to walk to the bamboo grove via Tenryo-ji shrine. They say it best to get to the grove early to beat the tourists, but it rained in the morning, so we took our time and got to the grove about lunch-time. While crowded, it wasn’t as packed as what we thought it would be, given it was a Sunday and also ‘golden week’ (maybe people were eating lunch). We also walked to and visited the Nison-in temple that was recommended by Miki; she highlighted the moss that covered a lot of the grounds; a very worthwhile diversion and IMHO better than the Okochi Sanso Garden we also visited). Had a late lunch in the local area then walked to JR’s Saga-Arashiyama stn; ¥220 to JR’s Inari stn (simple transfer at JR Kyoto stn) with the Fushimi Inari shrine entrance across the road. The place is pricey, but we’re glad we stayed here.

Hygienic: Stayed for four days, there was cleaning service in the middle, rough cleaning, the wall vacuum cleaner was all uncleaned dust, not like the carefulness of the Japanese Environment: Next door is the funeral home, friends who mind carefully choose Service: Encountered the Chinese front desk, feeling warm Facilities: Although the pots and pans are complete, there is no seasoning. If you want to cook by yourself, it is recommended to bring your own seasoning bag. There is a washing machine, but the drying function is about to be unavailable. There is no balcony. It is difficult to dry. Overall satisfaction. Tips: Stay at Kyoto Station, luggage storage is not at the homestay, it is recommended to check in on time, arrange the itinerary, read the email instructions in advance

It was about 20 minutes walk from Kyoto Station, so it was a long way to go. Google Maps seems to be not good at catching the bus to the hostel, but the bus from Kyoto Station to the vicinity of the hostel did not come often. But the dormitory is very good to think that I want to live again There are stations and bus stops near the dormitory, so the road to the tourist attractions is not far away. Check-in must be done at the main store (?) near Kyoto Station. I didn't know that, so I walked 20 minutes from Kyoto Station to the hostel, and then took the train from the station near the hostel and went back to Kyoto Station. But kindly, when I went back to the dormitory, I took a taxi and I was able to go back to the dormitory very comfortably. The staff were friendly.

It turned out to be a single-family villa. The password was sent by email to check in directly. All procedures were omitted. The facilities are complete and very good

Detached house. The small courtyard is very chic. The bathtub is outside and not cold at all. We ordered with breakfast, but someone would come here in the morning to make breakfast and watch the whole process. Drinks and coffee are free. In the residential area, the rooms are quiet

Very good single-family experience ～ B&B, but it is also a branded chain store. It is more special to stay. You need to go to another hotel opened at Kyoto Station to check in. After completing the procedures, they can have a car to send to the check-in point for free; When checking out, you can leave the room card directly in the bag of the room's introduction book. So if you enter and leave early and leave late, the problem of luggage check-in that does not match the check-in and check-out time can be solved very well. ～ There are clerks who can provide Chinese services when checking in, and communication is barrier-free. If the room is in the room, the clerk will introduce that because the sound insulation of the residential building may be a bit poor, the actual neighborhood is very quiet and there is no problem ～ The room facilities are complete, pots and bowls, induction cookers, microwave ovens, refrigerators, washing machines are all available; two bathrooms, one bathroom; toiletries are all pola; the only drawback is that there is no chair and no back chair, you can find a place to sit on the wall by yourself

I chose this accommodation to experience the squatter house, which is in line with expectations and can accommodate more than six adults. The place to stay is several streets away from Kyoto Station, and it is in different locations with Sakaya, but the first free connection to Sakaya will be provided at check-in. Both bedrooms are on the upper floors and the steps are high. If you are with the elderly, you can consider laying tatami mats on the lower floors.
