After staying at minshukus, ryokans and western-style hotels over the last several days, it was a pleasure to end our Japan stay with 2 nights at Kyoto Machiya Fukune. The 2 of us appreciated the extra space of the Sangen machiya compared to our previous lodgings to just chill out, especially when soaking in your personal outdoor hot water (not onsen) bath or the indoor hinoki bath and looking out onto the compact zen garden. Beds were comfortable and bathrooms modern and clean. The included mini-bar (Asahi beer, sake, soft drinks and water) was an unexpected bonus! The welcome tea ceremony with traditional sweets (much better than that offered with the included entry price at the Okochi Sanso Garden in Arashiyama) was a far superior greeting than fronting a hotel reception desk even if one has to wait (about 10 mins) for Miki to arrive (which was forewarned in the pre-stay info); we were informed of our security code when we rang (using the complimentary phone in the separate arrival area) and could access the machiya while waiting. Miki was very helpful with local restaurant and sightseeing tips. Excellent pre-stay information was provided via email from Kyoto Machiya Fukune. While we didn’t use the laundry (complimentary) we did make use of the locker, which we found could store 2 large suitcases and 2 carry-on luggage with room leftover for shopping bags. It cost us ¥1500 for taxi/uber from JR Kyoto stn to the machiya. Once there it is only several minutes’ walk to various train stns or bus stops. Nishiki mkt’s western entrance is about a 10min walk away. This was my 3rd time in Kyoto with the goal to visit sights we hadn’t seen previously like Arashiyama’s bamboo grove and Fushimi Inari shrine. The Randen line’s Shijo-Omiya stn is just over 10mins walk away and the tram takes you into the heart of Arashiyama’s shopping *****, the Kimino forest and near the Tongetsu-kyo bridge. Then take your time to walk to the bamboo grove via Tenryo-ji shrine. They say it best to get to the grove early to beat the tourists, but it rained in the morning, so we took our time and got to the grove about lunch-time. While crowded, it wasn’t as packed as what we thought it would be, given it was a Sunday and also ‘golden week’ (maybe people were eating lunch). We also walked to and visited the Nison-in temple that was recommended by Miki; she highlighted the moss that covered a lot of the grounds; a very worthwhile diversion and IMHO better than the Okochi Sanso Garden we also visited). Had a late lunch in the local area then walked to JR’s Saga-Arashiyama stn; ¥220 to JR’s Inari stn (simple transfer at JR Kyoto stn) with the Fushimi Inari shrine entrance across the road. The place is pricey, but we’re glad we stayed here.

We really enjoyed our family stay (6 nights) at the Hiramatsu Kyoto. The room and food were great but what made it an amazing experience was the staff. Everyone was very kind, attentive, helpful and patient. The food was great and we enjoyed different breakfast menu everyday. Specially, we loved the miso fish and vegetables at the Izumi and the risotto at the Luce. Also, they had a Kids course that considering my son food restrictions, and he really enjoyed. The room was gorgeous, new and spacious. We had more than enough space for a family of three. Finally, as our first trip since the beginning of the pandemic, we were keen to avoid crowded restaurants and ensure social distance. The staff was very understanding and they accommodated such request so we could enjoy the delicious food without concerns. Special thanks for Sophie that started helping us even before our reservation. We really enjoyed our stay, so we highly recommend this hotel.

I had a terrific four night stay at the Ace in Kyoto. The building design is stunning and set the vibe for the entire stay. The front desk staff were so friendly and so helpful with my many questions and requests. The room was spacious and well stocked with whatever you needed. The soaking tub was the prefect way to recover after a day running around Kyoto. I'm vegan, and the restaurants made sure I had plenty of delicious food to eat. The hotel centrally located within Kyoto, and right above a mall that had some great shopping. I recommend the Ace and look forward to returning.

The room was very very nice! Don’t mention the 13 square meters shown on the introduction, it should be at least 50 square meters. There are guest rooms, rooms, and bathrooms are separated. The toilet is on the other side. All are covered with bamboo mats. It is very comfortable and clean, and the white socks are not stained with dust. When we arrived, the bath water had already been placed in the pine wooden tub, and everything should be put in a place where we could easily get it. There is a faint woody fragrance in the whole room, which is so healing. The service is very thoughtful and meticulous, even if you don't understand the language, you can also dance and communicate. The most memorable thing is that his food is so delicious, it is the most worthwhile hotel in Kyoto. The proprietress is very kind, and will definitely stay here again

The new paid breakfast is a small bowl that looks great. Regarding Nomura Kyosaimi’s breakfast, if you look directly at Gurunavi, the photo is almost the same as the actual product, so I think it will be helpful.

We used it for the university entrance examination. Use it in twin for accompanying children. This hotel was decided by a hotel with a good transportation from the University and a large bath. Reasonable with breakfast! It was convenient and helpful to buy lunch box on the morning of the examination day because the first floor is seven eleven! I am glad that there is free coffee and soft drink at the front desk. Amenities are also placed at the front desk and you choose yourself and bring them into the room. The room was quite compact, but there was a desk and I could study. I'm glad that there is a new and clean humid air cleaner! It is the first experience that there is a washing machine in the room! It seems to be very popular for those who stay overnight. The public bath is also narrow, but the cleaning is well done and satisfied. There was also an open-air bath that could see the sky (laughs) I stayed on the second floor, so it is the floor with a breakfast restaurant. I thought that the guests would be noisy in the morning with the sound and the voice walking in the corridor, but the soundproofing was good without hearing the sound at all. There are many kinds of breakfast and cheap and satisfied! In the daytime of the examination day, it is sightseeing alone. My home for a week in Kyoto 😁 It's not far from the subway, but it's still a bit far away, so people with too much luggage should consider it. When we arrived, Inoue-san was waiting to welcome us in front of the property. (I felt bad because we arrived later than anticipated due to traffic.) He helped us carry all our heavy suitcases. We received a warm welcome and his hospitality during our stay was second to none. Everything about the property was wonderful! The location was perfect as we were there for the Kyoto Gion Matsuri. There were lots going on the street we were on, including hoko (floats) parade, hoko assembling, music rehearsal at night, and hoko disassembling, which were very interesting. We enjoyed restaurants all around in neighborhood from Gyoza to Motsunabe. Transportation access to bus stops and train stations was good. The property was super clean. Having a washing machine and dryer system in the bathroom really helped us since we were there for a week. We definitely go back if we travel in Kyoto again in the near future!

I’m quite surprised by many of the reviews on here. We booked in only this afternoon, the hotel is nice and location is fine. It is a City centre hotel after all. The bathroom is good with a high spec toilet and a wet area and a ‘deep’ bath but at 6’2 i doubt i’d fit in. There are usb charging cables but no wifi roaming devices as some people say but these reviews were pre covid. My big complaint is that there is absolutely no storage. No drawers, or shelves The ‘wardrobe’ is just two rows of metal runners with 5 hangers. All fully exposed to the room and which you can’t help hitting when you go from door to bed The intriguing thing is that there is a full size door next to this. It opens into the room to reveal… a wall. Really handy for storing er large sheets of plywood maybe, as long as they are not more than an inch thick. We thought it might be a connecting door .. it’s not. There is a small bedside table on one side only. There is no reading light on the right side of the bed. There are only two pillows. As there is nowhere to store any additional ones as are usually found in even a premier inn. We have to keep all of our clothes in our suitcase, but we did find a use for an odd sized table as a suitcase stand. Oh yes and unlike the similar hotel in Hiroshima last night there is only one chair. I look forward to a response from the management team .

We chose this hotel due to itsʻ location and it exceeded our expectations! The hotel staff was helpful and provided information in Japanese and English. We stayed for 13 days and were impressed with the hotelʻs determination to provide us with clean rooms, towels and other items. This hotelʻs location at Shijo/Karasuma made it easy to get to train stations, bus and the subway. There were also many excellent restaurants and shopping possibilities. One of the features we appreciated a lot was the laundry. We also appreciated that it was quiet.. didnʻt even hear people in the halls or doors close. Having lived in Kyoto for a long time, this was our first time to stay in a hotel and would recommend it for sure.

We had mixed reviews of this accomodation Pros - was a very large room two small doubles and a bunk perfect for families. Amenities are great with wifi, lots of kitchen utensils, stove, tea and coffee supplied, toothbrushes available, washing machine and tablets are provided with an inbuilt dryer system in the bathroom. Bathroom and shower area was also spacious. Beds are on the okay side but could be softer. The area itself is nice and quiet with a bus stop right out from we utilised every day, supermarket and Lawsons are across the road and you feel very safe. Would recommend for families. Cons - check in is in a different location 20minute taxi away so we had to catch a train to the check in office when arriving in Kyoto from Osaka, then a taxi to the accomodation after this which chewed up a few hours as we had to wait 45min in addition to check in due to busyness of the office. The area is a bit out of the way of everything next time I might consider staying at a different resi stay location closer to sights and facilities like shops etc. All the restaurants in the area seem to not open for breakfast until 11am so we had to have McDonald’s if we didn’t want to cook or travel too far for breakfast as we have a toddler (early riser). Same occurred at dinner time a lot of restaurants didn’t seem to be open the Monday or Tuesday we were there or opened too late for us (we travelled with a four year old). Our last disappointment was resi stay apparently have a strict not noise at night policy however another room partied until about 3am but there is no front desk or after hours phone number to call to complain / get the noise to stop. Was very frustrating as walls were very thin so we didn’t sleep very well. Overall we would stay with Resi Stay again but at another location due to Nishijin being a bit too out of the way for us.
