The hotel environment is very good, very quiet, and very suitable for travel and vacation. Golden Key at the front desk helped us check in, and he was very fluent in everything he said and done, so there was no delay in checking in. He arranged to send our luggage to the room for us. He was very polite and welcoming. Breakfast room Overall, it's pretty good. The dishes need to be improved. The restaurant waiter Xiao Yin is very enthusiastic. The overall service attitude of the hotel is very good. I will come back next time I travel.

I have stayed at this location three times and it is a wonderful hotel except for one FATAL FLAW. The rooms are beautiful, very well appointed. The front desk and service staff are very friendly and responsive. The front desk manager speaks very good English. The only problem with this hotel is that the air conditioner does not work. This is similar to a lot of large hotels in China that have a central air conditioning system. The system is either undersized or they just turn it off when there’s a low occupancy rate at the hotel which I suspect is the real problem. I had the air conditioner on and running all night but it was still 29°C when I checked out of my room at 11:00 am the next day. That is 84°F. I’m heading through Kunming again in two days and I would love to stay at the Howard Johnson but I just can’t take the heat.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good but only chinese, just take note if you’re a fussy eater. The room was very clean but smelled like smoke. There were “no smoking” signs everywhere but even the hallway smelled like smoke. This s not conducive for a non smoker as it would not allow one to have a good night of sleep.
