Yagyu No Sho

Yagyuso is traditionally elegant, understated luxury ryokan. The room is comfortable, the food is exquisite, the tableware is very beautiful, the proprietress is enthusiastic, and the service is just right. Their open-air hot spring is really first-class. Soaking in the hot spring and enjoying the beautiful scenery around you makes you feel happy physically and mentally! Will go again.

I heard that it was a wonderful inn, so I took my 1-year-old child here. Although it is a little far from the downtown area of ​​Shuzenji Onsen town, it is within walking distance, and as you take a leisurely stroll through the local residential area, you will find Yagyu no Sho tucked away among the trees. The entrance is paved with gravel and has a nice sound, and when you enter the building, the room is beautiful from the entrance, and this time it was decorated with freshly harvested rice from Shuzenji. The painting of the group sparrow is also very nice and matches the atmosphere of the inn. You can feel the craftsmanship throughout the building, and the flower arrangements are beautiful. This time we stayed in the most affordable room, and it was spacious with a sunken kotatsu and a dirt floor, and the bath was large enough to accommodate a family of four. The interior of the room has been designed with various features such as the flooring, wood, walls, and ceiling, allowing you to enjoy the beauty of Japanese architecture. After being served matcha tea and sweets, I headed to the open-air bath. There was a bit of a walk up and down some stairs, but the bath was spacious and the greenery was beautiful. After the hot spring, you can take a rickshaw from Shuzenji Onsen to your accommodation for a 30-minute round trip, and then enjoy dinner. When it was time for dinner, the person in charge of the room came to greet me, and he was a very lovely and nice person who took care of me in various ways. The food is as good as its reputation, elaborately prepared, and both fun and delicious. I'm happy to be able to bring hot, freshly prepared food to my room. After that, pull up your futon, take a bath in your room, and go to bed. You can adjust the temperature of the bath, but since I don't like hot water, I asked for it to be 39 degrees. The futon is single-sized and a little thick, so if you are traveling with small children, you may be worried about it being a bit cramped and falling off. My child probably got out of the futon early and slept on the tatami mat because it was hot. LOL The open-air bath is open even at night, so if you're a couple, it's a good idea to go to the hot spring instead. We had a refreshing and delicious breakfast, took a quick dip in the other open-air bath, and then purchased Shuzenji's new rice and local specialty donko, which were displayed at the entrance and sold at the shop, before checking out in our room. The landlady greeted me at the entrance when I saw her off, and she was a wonderful woman. I think this is truly a top-level inn where you can bring your children. It was a truly wonderful stay. I would love to visit again with my family.

I visited with my family for the first time in a year. This time, I stayed at Umenoo. I was able to step out on the bamboo-covered edge and relax while listening to the flow of the river. I could enjoy the sound of the river from the open-air bath in a splendid room carved out of stone. I was also very satisfied with the meal. Mr. Nakai was also a very nice person and we had a wonderful time.

A revisit after 5 years. If I were to describe this ryokan in one word, it would be "beauty". From the appearance of the gate, and from the atmosphere the moment you step into the entrance, it's already exceptional (usually there are one or two questions or retorts, but none at all). A truly first class ryokan with tradition and unique style. What's cool even in the bath lol. Since it's Shuzenji, the quality of the hot water isn't that good, but maybe because there aren't many rooms, it doesn't overlap with other guests, so it's comfortable. For those who can afford it, there are rooms with open-air baths and super-luxury rooms. (I can't do it yet lol) The food is standard kaiseki. The sense of the vessel is truly amazing, and the food itself is wonderful. I'm not the type to find surprises or new discoveries, but Coco has originality and a sense of specialness that makes me feel at ease. The amazing thing about this ryokan is that it doesn't make you feel formal at all, even though it's particular about beauty and has "class and dignity". There is nothing like the ulterior motive of trying to show better than the essence. Therefore, families are very welcome. When I first visited him, my eldest son was 1 and a half years old. I wondered what would happen when I took my 3 children with me, but I think the children were a little quieter than usual, probably because of the atmosphere of the inn...lol As far as I know, it's definitely the best inn One.

I visited when the cherry blossoms along the Katsura River were in full bloom. This time it was Hagi's room. There is a semi-open-air bath and a small garden. It's not gorgeous, but you can feel the attention to detail, such as the spoon-cut floor. It seems that the chef changed about a year and a half ago, but it was still very delicious as before. It was very impressive that the cherry blossoms at the entrance were gorgeous.
