Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, Autograph Collection

The service is poor, the guests who are not very good at the language are not patient enough. The front desk does not look at the order carefully. If I have already paid the full amount of the room, I will re-collect it once! Bad review!

I feel that the hotel guests are too old. The environment can be anything. The hotel is a bit of a year. Everything is ok. The price is generally telling the truth.

This hotel should be said to be a resort with complete facilities, consisting of several buildings, like a park. There are several small shops and 8 restaurants, the rooms are good, not to mention the view, the service is okay, it is a good choice to live on this trip.
Kona Village A Rosewood Resort

We just finished 7 nights at Kona Village. We had a trip booked there in 2011, but the Tsunami hit so the trip was cancelled. We were excited to hear that they had reopened and just returned from 7 nights for our family of 4. The property itself is definitely 5 stars. Beautiful location, beaches, and rooms (hales). The property is over 80 acres and tucked away. It felt private and less crowded than other large resorts. We also saw wildlife galore right from the beach - monk seals, turtles, whales, etc. The price to stay here is $$$$$. We paid $3,200 per night for an ocean front Hale. At that price point you’d expect exceptional service and that was where the resort fell short of the 5 star ratings and had us leaving feeling that they are way over priced. Examples: - At check in our room wasn’t available. Actually it was cleaned and ready to go, but some amenities hadn’t been delivered yet. After 2 hours of waiting we asked for an ETA. They had no idea. We then asked them for we could go to the room to change while they wait for the amenities to be delivered and they told us that wasn’t allowed. We then asked if we could get our swimsuits from our luggage so that our kids could at least swim while we waited and they said that our bags had already been delivered to the room so no. Lots of run around and, as guests, we would have placed a much higher value of getting in our room as soon as we arrived vs waiting for hours so that a hand written note and fruit platter could be in our room prior to our arrival. - They give you bikes to get around the resort. We were in Halle 150 which is at the very end of the resort. There were 4 of us, but only 2 bikes at our Halle. Problem number 1 is that they didn’t have enough bikes at our Halle before arrival. Problem number 2 is that, when they delivered bikes to our room, they weren’t even close to the right sizes for our kids. Our 6 year old ended up using the 10 year olds bike to give you a sense of how off they were. They kept saying that they were low on kids bikes and didn’t know that they’d have the right sizes for our kids. They did, thankfully, as I don’t know how we would have gotten around without them. Given that they repeatedly told us that they were short on kids bikes, I suggested that they pick up the bikes that were the wrong size from our Halle so that another family could use the bikes and they never did. They sat there, unused, for the entire week. - One morning we had a snorkel trip booked and had to leave the resort before the restaurant opened for breakfast. They have a coffee shop on property that opens an hour before the restaurant so our plan was to grab breakfast there before leaving for the snorkel. It was supposed to open at 6am and was still closed at 6:20am. When I asked the front desk what was going on they had no idea that it hadn’t opened yet and assumed that an employee didn’t make it to wait that day. This caused quite the scramble for us. - We waited over 20 minutes fr

The resort was all that we expected and more! Staff is very friendly and treats guests in the most welcoming way. At all times, they are fastidious about service and helping you enjoy the experience and take in the marvelous scenery. The hotel is located in a semi-remote area, with only a few restaurants near by, nevertheless you will not want to leave the resort as it is so beautiful and has enough choices for dining on the property. As expected, prices are high but I felt the experience was worth. On our last day there were may children and families which made it a bit loud at the pool, but there is an adult pool option that was much quieter. I highly recommend it and will look for more Auberge Resorts in the future!
The Westin Hapuna Beach Resort

A review of the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort: My family and I recently completed a vacation stay at the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort. Overall, the resort is wonderful with a few rough edges. The resort is located on the west side of the Big Island, about 30 miles north of the airport -- with ”island traffic” plan on 30-45 minutes if you need to travel down into Kona. This resort takes full advantage of its beach location, which is consistently rated one of world's best. Hapuna Beach is an amazing long crescent-shaped beach great for swimming and snorkeling (near the coral at the edges of the beach. We saw turtles, octopus, and a wide variety of fish). The beach is perfect for families with children, though the water can get a little rough if the trade winds are blowing. Check-in was smooth and efficient. My elite membership was recognized as well as my birthday during our visit. We were offered points of elite breakfast credit, which included continental breakfast for two in Ikena Landing. Upon arriving to our room, we were greeted with a lovely bottle of wine and assorted goodies for our celebration. Our room was clean and well-appointed. We were staying on a points redemption, so no SNA option. We had a ”partial” ocean view room but I suspect we were given an ocean view room because we had a wonderful view of the ocean and resort grounds. According to front desk personnel, the resort did have a handful of ”lanai” rooms near the ground level with no view whatsoever, including a small number of no-view suites. We had a spacious bathroom with shower and tub; also a wonderful lanai with a table & chairs along with a comfortable outdoor couch perfect for lounging in the evening with a beverage while watching the sunset. All service requests through the chat function were promptly met and taken care of throughout our visit. Note, this resort also had a free guest laundry facility with detergent and other supplies -- perfect if you pack light or just want to clean off your swimsuits before you head home. Our main gripe relates to the food & beverage offerings and service. The resort's dinner restaurant, Meridia, takes full advantage of the resort views and location. Unfortunately, that's about all it has going for it. For the price point, the food was marginal and service was lacking. For a similar price point, I'd suggest heading up-country to Merriman's for terrific farm-to-table food and great service. As I mentioned, we received elite continental breakfast for two at Ikena Landing, each morning. Upgrade to the full buffet was offered for an additional $25 per person. Prices were steep for breakfast. Servers were friendly but took a while to get food out at times. I would recommend, particularly families working within a budget, to try Piko Coffee Bar. Piko has much better coffee options throughout the day and also offers a variety of hot/cold grab-and-go options (at breakfast, eggs, hash browns and breakfast meats, pas
