The Caleta Hotel Health, Beauty & Conference Centre

We stayed at the hotel last week, we are regular visitors to Gibraltar as my partner has family there. We have never stayed at any of the hotels, always opting for apartments or staying with family. The Caleta is a lovely hotel, clean, well staffed and a perfect location with superb sea views. Many of the reviews regarding the external state of the hotel are sadly true, but a quick investigation on google confirms this hotel is destined to be hit with a wrecking ball in the next few months so it's easy to understand why no money has been invested recently in the upkeep of the exterior. I can honestly say we really enjoyed our one and only stay at Caleta. The new hotel planned will no doubt be superb but I would suspect out of my price range.

A very disappointing experience. The internal.pubkic areas of hitel seem smart and well maintained but anything external is in a poor state of repair and dirty! We had lunch on the terrace which was dreadful- chicken, brie, curry sauce, spinach and caramelised onion were delivered after 20 minute wait - they were not busy- they came with no onion or spinach. The baguette was not fresh, I suspect had been frozen. Seved with crisps that were stake in Inedible! Waitress was delightful and apologised and took them off the bill. Then we found out 2 G+T's were £32- £8 more than The Rock ! They were not worth £24 I those surroundings!! A dreadful place apart from the staff. Avoid until they have at least painted the place and cleaned it up!

Our son was getting married and staying elsewhere; we decided the Caleta was more appropriate for us and our daughter as it’s right on the beach. The location is beautiful, we had a sea view room with a tiny balcony and it was lovely listening to the waves at night. We opted for no breakfast as I had read poor reviews - I assumed there would be somewhere else locally. There isn’t! So it’s either a walk, bus or taxi into town. The main entrance and bar area are what you would expect from 3/4 star and reception staff are incredibly helpful. However, beyond that, the property is clearly in need of refurbishment - rooms, whilst clean, are dated and it’s expensive for what is on offer. Some of the towels and bed linen were not as clean as they might be, the safe in our room was broken and we had no hot water for the first couple of days - this was eventually sorted and a refund given. Food and drink is expensive. I understand the property has been acquired by a large hotel chain and will be rebuilt or refurbished over the next couple of years, locals say it will then be the best in Gibraltar!

I stayed for 1 night at short notice following a flight cancellation, and arrived late evening. Front desk manager Pablo could not have been more helpful, outlined what services were available including a tasty sandwich served in the bar with friendly waiters. There was some confusion at breakfast as I wasn't initially offered the rate including a cooked breakfast which was unusual, so I settled for a cold platter. The outdoor area around the pool was superb to relax around and not crowded and Pablo was again helpful in ordering a taxi to get me to the airport, a good stay!

Expensive, as to be expected at present, but an excellent quality hotel Rooms include shower and a small desk, adequate coat hangers and a small balcony, which includes a table and chairs. Sadly our cheaper room has s Rock facing view. Includes a pool, beach access, and has a bus stop outside, and helpful staff regarding advice.
