WARNING! Booked due to impressive photos. Do no be deceived hotel is very run down. No maintenance in years. No water in fountains. I thought we had arrived at an abandoned hotel when we pulled up. Broken items all around grounds and hotel. Our room had broken items everywhere too. Furniture did not work with layout. Deck furnitureggg needs upgrade. What the… the whole hotel needs an upgrade badly or better maintenance staff or budget. No coffee machine, only instant coffee (which is the worst). Shower would flood room due to the glass surround missing. Only good things were the views from room, staff and that we only stayed one night….. Wish we could get a refund.

The hotel is run down and severely lacking maintenance, whilst we were checking in children were riding through reception on bicycles. No signs of any management. Went to the golf club for drinks and dinner, shocking service, staff “hurry you up” as they want to go home early, food was far from good and order was not taken correctly. Hotel rooms are dirty and run down, net curtains in my room were torn, AC did not work, bed and pillows were horrible. We are on a 10 days trip around Western Cape and this is certainly THE WORST hotel we have stayed in, we will never go back

We went there as part of a group and had lunch and spent the day there Resort The resort entrance is quite authentic with a feeling of african design. You have to take the stairs or elevator to go to the restaurant or common areas as the reception itself is quite elvated from the ground. The hotel landscaping is quite brick style instead of lush garden style. And not everybody will like this design. It does have a swimming pool as wel but you have to find it. There is a restaurant nearby the river/stream. The river is quite uninviting and green/brownish - beware of what's lurking indepth. Food/service The hotel was perhaps overloaded with our group as the service was not there, disconnected and the food was uncooked on the buffet. There is a small greenish area at the main common entrance with a small kids playground. We didn't try the golf experience as we were there for only one day. Overall was not a great experience

We arrived in rain, no porters around, our rooms were quite a way away and yes we got wet, had to lift cases upstairs as no lifts, safe didn't work, electric was off due to load sharing so could charge anything, bar is outside hotel which meant further time outside in rain, went out for dinner got back at 11.20 everything was shut so could get a drink. Staff helpful but having travelled 8000 miles it could have been so much better.

We have stayed there on several occassions and loved it but after spending 3 days trying to book I decided to read the reviews. I'm so pleased I did I had heard that this hotel was not the hotel it used to be and it would appear it isn't. So by not answering my phone calls you did me a favour. Not being able to get through to booking does not bode well for staying there. I can only comment on the service from the reservations dept.

Writing this review on day 2 of 3. Beautiful ornamental bath cannot be used due to almost no water pressure. By the time 10cm of water is inside bath, the luke warm water coming out of spout, is cold. Phoned reception, guy came, looked at the bath, told me I am not the first to report the problem, left...and thats it...problem not resolved. Furnature on balcony overlooking the beautiful golf estate and sea, full of bird droppings, rendering the balcony furnature useless. Also, stained carpets. I can live with the dated wall paper peeling off the walls, requiring capex. However bad housekeeping like stained carpets and lacking basic maintenance, that mostly only require good mamagement and man hours, is not on. Also wanted to take a jogg in the morning along the vehicle road leading to golf club, but not allowed to. Can understand that this is not allowed on the golf course. Wanted to take a walk to the whale deck watchout point, also not allowed to. Have to take the shuttle. Previous visit we had complimentary decent coffee, wine, snacks in the longe area of our floor, no luck this time round. Also no pod coffee machine in our room as per previous visit 2019. The dish of our choise at restaurant could not be served, due to some ingredient out of stock. All these small things adds up. Yes, covid happened, things changed and we all have to find ways to save. We reserved 3 rooms for our family of 6 at R1800 per room / night for three nights. Total R16200. We believe that we could possibly do better with this amount next time, somewhere else.

Yesterday morning (14 May), I was invited to a breakfast at this esteemed establishment the Oubaai Hotel and Spa. On entering the breakfast room, the first thing that I noticed were the filthy windows. And I know the place is next to the sea and this fact is a problem but I too live next to the sea so I know what it takes to keep windows clean. Then it was time to start eating, with a serving of either fruit, or cereal, or the traditional bacon and egg type breakfast. We were informed by guests there before us, not to drink the coffee from the machine but rather that the kitchen make us fresh coffee. Well that was a 15 minute saga to get our coffee and when we did, it was without either warm or cold milk. When it came to the breakfast itself they ran out of scrambled eggs and the hot food stuffs were anything but hot / warm. The "container" which had scrambled egg in it was empty and was that way for the duration of our breakfast. As we left, so a fresh batch arrived. No, we were not the last to arrive we were there pretty early with golfers streaming in ready for the days fun. The table at which we sat, had a damaged top surface with the chipboard exposed. We were told later that there were issues with the cooking equipment in the kitchen. While that may well be true - problem solve the problem - the dilemma isn't any concern of paying guests. The kitchen lacks hands on management. But wait that’s not all. The family I was with, who were guests at the hotel not with one room but three huge suites, had booked a private function room at the clubhouse for 14 people for a 50th birthday. When we got there, and that after confirming in the afternoon that all was prepared for our arrival, we witnessed that our function room had been occupied by another group of people. It’s a guess-did they walk in and just take over the function room or were they escorted to the function room without checking or was there a double booking? What goes through me is that a traditional Afrikaans surname cannot be confused with an African name / surname - the point I’m making is the people that took over our function room would definitely not have an Afrikaans surname so that should have set off an alarm bell something isn’t right with the welcoming receptionist. I’ll cut the story short - from this point onwards at the last moment we hastily had to find another venue in George to accommodate 14 people for the celebration. I believe the Oubaai owners ought to know their business (based on our experience) isn’t in good shape and neither is it in good hands.
