Another very relaxing and enjoyable stay in this superb hotel. Great room on the top floor looking across to Vestlia (thankyou Geir!); very filling breakfasts; and super staff - all very cheerful, friendly and helpful. Looking forward to returning next winter!

Spent new years at Geilo hotel and had a great time. Comfortable rooms, great views of the mountain-side, and the ski lift is just a few minutes walk away! Breakfast is fantastic, and I really appreciated that the dining room was nice and warm. Will come back for Norwegian waffles for breakfast, they made my day.

Reception staff were very welcoming and helpful, and happy to see us, noting that it was very quiet and only a handful of rooms were occupied in the first few days of our stay. The room on the 3rd floor was spacious and very pleasant. Two comfortable chairs to relax in, good work table, plenty of room for storage, and a very comfortable king bed, with soft pillows. The large windows offered a great view of the Vestlia ski area and the southern mountains beyond. But you will hear baby elephants (kids and adults alike) moving around in the floors above and below, and in the corridors - it’s family-friendly, so you have to expect this in holiday periods. Between-floor and between-room insulation is not great. Pretend that you’re staying in a youth hostel and you’ll be fine. It does generally go quiet after about 11pm, and remains so until baby elephant waking time. Bedside tables and individual light fittings (with power outlets) excellent. Wifi reliable and fast, TV adequate. General lighting per any Norwegian hotel - i.e. a little on the dark side. Nonetheless, a table lamp and a lamp stand adds just enough brightness. A full-length mirror on one of the cupboards can be pivoted for viewing. The bathroom was a generous size, clean, and modern, with good lighting, and excellent water pressure and heat in the shower, and even a plug for the sink (rare in our travels!), but no shampoo. The bathroom floor was not heated, surprisingly for Norway. The oddest thing was the non-usable hair dryer. Perhaps one day an electrician will wire it up so it can be used! No in-room safe, tea or coffee facilities - so it’s a walk down the steps to the dining area to discover the hot water urn and tea bags, instant coffee, and creamer sachets. Or pay for a hot chocolate. Or buy a drink at the bar. The door keys are the credit card variety, with the room number printed on the card (but no hotel information, so no issue about security if mislaid). Elsewhere in the hotel, plenty of public areas to relax in, a good sized ski storage area adjacent to the entrance, and a generally warm and cozy feel added to the more traditional mountain lodge style of family-run hotel. It’s not your average chain hotel. Food and dining was a very mixed bag. The included breakfast was surprisingly thin pickings. Good for regular Norwegian light breakfasts perhaps, but a poor choice of breads which were not always freshly baked. No croissants or other varieties of baked goods made it seem rather sp**** in offerings. A lot of the platters looked tired: they appear to have been set out for a number of days. The cooked breakfast was nothing to write home about - no bacon on its own must upset a lot of Norwegians! Other hotels we’ve stayed in have offered fresher food and greater variety: smoothies, porridge, chocolate croissants, more cooked options. The service was a little haphazard, too: food not replenished without asking, plates and cutlery being removed too quickly, and no in

Great Stay, Comfortable and very friendly In the village centre, with great access to everywhere. Free parking and Free fast internet Rooms are a little outdated but it keeps the feel of the area and what the hotel stands for. Breakfast was incredible with a great selection of foods, and i personally loved the waffle machine, making my own waffles. Fully recommended

This hotel has the potential to be much better than it is. Worst check in experience of my travels, ever. To say the young lady that checked me in was rude would be an understatement. Dinner restaurant at hotel closed at 7pm, this is the time most restaurants in Norway open. It was very hard to find anyplace opened for dinner as the town was closed up. Room: No kettle for coffee or tea. No luggage rack. Room STUNK of perfume/fragrance. Very poor sleep because there was a high pitch noise from building next door. I had requested a quiet room, I should have been given a room on the opposite side of the construction due to my request. Cheap plastic throw away cup in bathroom for water. No shelf in shower. No floor towel. No tissue box. 3 hangers: 1 plastic,1 wooden, 1 falling apart. Breakfast: Nice view Opens rather late during the week, 08:00. Tiny water glasses. Tiny coffee cups. Processed poor quality meats/pate. They cut the fruit paper thin. Both hard and soft eggs clearly labeled. They had a large pan of an egg scramble with onions and tomatoes that was tasty. There was a plate of sunny side eggs…each had a small piece of crispy bacon on top of them, would have been nice if there was actually bacon for the rest of the guests. Lactose free yogurt and gluten free granola were options. Security issue: Room key has the name of the hotel on it and the number of your room.

Great value for the price. Included breakfast was good. Currently a bit of construction going on street near the hotel.

We stayed here for a week with a family of five. We had two rooms on the 3rd floor. The hotel is quite small and looks like an alpine lodge. We found it to be cosy and welcoming. The rooms are relatively modern with enough space, we were happy with the beds. Try and get a room with a Mountain View, the rooms on the other side also have an ok view but face onto the train tracks and there are sometimes freight trains at night. Breakfast is varied and not very busy with some gluten free options that kept me happy. The kids loved the waffle machine. Dinner is served in the restaurant from 6-8.30 and is a fixed menu that doesn’t seem to change, will cost £20-30 a person at least, but the quality was nice and the view of Vestlia is immense. The ski bus which comes with the price of the ski pass leaves and drops off right outside the hotel which is super convenient. They stop running around 4.45 each day so need to be quick once the lifts close at 4.30. The train station is 5-10 mins walk and the town has a number of shops again 5-10 mins away. Skiiing wise we really enjoyed the slopes at Vestlia and Havsdalen. Perfect for the kids who were learning for the first time and they enjoyed the ski school. Not much apres ski but that’s to be expected as this is a family resort. Absolutely no wait for lifts and the pistes were quiet. Ski school was very well run and is highly recommended, but book well in advance as gets filled up fast!! We flew to Oslo and got the alpine train to Geilo. 3 hours long and amazing views of the mountains. Kids loved it. Recommend getting Plusse tickets or your own compartment. Overall the hotel is expensive for what it is but Norway is pricey in general. We didn’t have any complaints and the kids had a great time and did not want to leave!! I was torn whether to give three or four stars as we had a great time but decided for three which I think is fair. Tips: - Get a Mountain View room if you can - Try some of the restaurants in the town: Beefbar, pizzeria at the Highland Lodge, Sofias - Consider hiring a car. We had to get taxis a lot as our beginners weren’t confident on the red/blue runs between the resorts back down the mountains - Get the lifts to the top of Kikut and Havsdalen for the best views and longest runs - Vestlia does night skiiing until 8pm with floodlights on some days which is cool - I would avoid staying at the Vestlia resort, very expensive for what it is (about double the price) - Be prepared to spend a lot of money. Standard lunch about £80-90, alcoholic drink £10+
