Ahu Bay

Fantastic position right in the water- we don’t think we have ever stayed so close to the ocean! Food and service impeccable. Abhishek in particular made us feel very welcome. We spent 2 nights here at the end of a busy 2 week tour of Sri Lanka and so were happy to lie around the pool and do nothing - a great place to do so. One note: the massages while very good are hideously expensive, as was the transfer to the airport - way out of kilter even for a luxury property such as this. Left a bit of a sour taste after what was a really lovely stay.

You can take the train from Colombo to the southern tip of Sri Lanka, and be met by your guide Krish who will deliver you safely to this magnificent boutique hotel. Krish can be available every day to take you sightseeing to different areas, but if you want just to stay at the hotel, he is quite comfortable with that, and will only charge you for what he helps you with.

Super experience in a real boutique hotel just a few months old! Beach was above expectations and you almost can jump from your bed into the ocean….it’s only 20 meters away. Excellent cousine and super friendly personnel. Worth the money especially if you get the long stay discount. On the same beach you will find local guides (we recommend Krish) that can show you around.

This is a beautifully designed property with a stunning social area which is open sided to make the most of the sea view. Lots of comfortable seating for drinks, dinner, reading etc. We had a pool room and the open air aspect was a lovely feature. Beautiful bathroom with blue tiling, similar to the floor in the social area. Gives a real beach feel. The grounds have been interestingly set out with lots of four poster sunbeds dotted around. We did not have any problems with people loitering. Food was excellent and interesting and staff very helpful. A good first or last stop on an island tour.

Beautifully décoration hôtel , spacious rooms , gorgeous location. They were very attentive. They allowed me to give a yoga class to my friends near the pool and even lent us some yoga mats. The staff surprised me with a bottle of wine and a gluten free birthday cake. And each room received a tea gift box when leaving. And the bar was great. The food and drinks were amazing. The breakfast service in the morning was slow but lunch and dinner were fine. So a little room for improvement. I highly recommend this place. Located on a beautiful beach . We could walk to a turtle hatchery and conservation center was an incredible experience.

We visited Ahu Bay to celebrate our anniversary. It's a lovely small hotel for adults and older children (younger kids are not allowed). The rooms are small, but well appointed and very comfortable. We had a direct view of the ocean. The food was excellent. The pool was lovely, and a great place not just for a swim but to also to lounge around and read. The spa was good. The only negative was that the beach is not private AT ALL. Sri Lankan hotels don't generally have private beaches, but often at boutique hotels you get a lot of privacy at the beaches. But in this case there were men hanging around the area right outside our rooms, and it really felt intrusive. During the day every time we stepped onto the beach area there were 4-5 of them hanging around and starting at us, which made us feel very uncomfortable. Wish the hotel could come to some understanding with the locals about this. Other than that our stay was very enjoyable.

Ahu Bay boutique style hotel offered true beachfront location nestled between two secluded palm fringed bays. Our villa consisted of a spacious open air lounge room, king size bedroom with a large colourful blue bathroom. There were also another bunk room with an additional bathroom of the inside courtyard. We also had a private swimming pool which lead out from the lounge room. It was only a few sandy foot steps to the beautiful beach. There were two private deck chairs and a cabana open to other guests. Room - Our only disappointment was our villa wasn't very private. We had two rooms above us which looked directly down to the pool. Although we had two deck chairs there was a cabana next to the chairs which could be used by any other guests. This villa would not be suited for honeymooners looking for privacy. Also, the villa kids bedroom is not connected to the master room and there is a walk through an open courtyard. (inside). Apart from this, we did actually love the room and got over the issue pretty quickly after viewing the closeness to the ocean. Restaurant - All meals were interesting and varied offering Sri Lankan & western style. We particularly loved the fresh local lobster dishes and the seafood soup. The wine list was also excellent offering cocktails and good selection of overseas wines, Staff - All extremely friendly, efficient and helpful. A credit to this establishment. Beach - beautiful and safe for swimming. It was a blessing to get up in the morning and have a dip before breakfast. Location - 15 minute drive to the local Bentota shops and restaurants and 5 mins to Kosgoda.
