La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Charleston Riverview

This was the first time I booked a room at this hotel, and it will be the LAST! On arrival, I noted an odd odor in room 331, but, as I had many events planned, I deposited my bags and left the room, making a mental note to obtain an air freshener. Upon my return later that evening, the odor persisted despite the Febreeze I had purchased in my attempt to neutralize the odor. Finally, at 3:00 am the next morning, I came awake, unable to bear that horrible smell any longer. It was then that I was finally able to determine the nature of the odor: musty, damp carpet! I immediately attempted to contact the front desk to request a better room, however, there was no answer after numerous attempts. The phone simply rang and rang, unanswered by any staff member. Undeterred, I put on my bathrobe and made my way downstairs. After I found the attendant, she offered to provide me with another room "sight unseen" despite my insistence that I would need to inspect the new room before accepting the space. She was apparently concerned that once I inspected the new room, and, perhaps, contaminated the space (my paraphrase), her staff would then be required "to clean two rooms instead of one." I then insisted that this staff member accompany me to inspect the new room, in that case, so that she could then bear witness to any problems that may be present without my being required to make another vain attempt at contacting her. After we made our way to the new room, I stopped and attempted to hand the card key to the staff member. I did this after seeing the condition of the door, (i.e. peeled, chipped paint). The staff member refused to take the card key. I then opened the door and inspected the room. The peeling paint of the room's door matched the chipped enamel of the bathtub which was poorly concealed with cheap white paint which was wearing away. Overall my impression of this "hotel" is that it is shabby, poorly maintained, improperly staffed, and inadequately managed. The rooms are decrepit, unclean, smelly, and sorely in need of attention. Prior to this experience, I had pre-booked another room at this same establishment for a time in the future when I would again be traveling to Charleston. Following this terrible experience, however, I subsequently canceled that booking. I will NEVER book a room from this company again.

Good stay, great view from the Charleston Marina. Hotel is clean; staff team is friendly and good price. Definitely it was a good choice!

Excellent stay , wonderful staff , big clean comfy room , nice marina location. Great value for money. Absolutely no complaints.

Bed was uncomfortable, no refrigerator, too much highway noise. Shower curtain didn't keep the water in well. Breakfast was very good, staff were very good.

The locking mechanism on our door (inside safely lock) was broken in half and the phone didn’t work. It felt like the beginning of a horror movie. We were only there for a night so didn’t complain and made the best of it, but had our stay been longer we would have had to request a room change.

My family stayed here for a night and was throughly disappointed. We got to the hotel and waited an extended period of time before we were even recognized by the person at the counter. We were charged a fee for early check-in and we still waited up until it was just about time to actually check in before we received a room. The staff was not friendly and one we ran across appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. The rooms weren’t clean and looked run down. The tv in one of our rooms didn’t work and we had to switch rooms because they didn’t have a maintenance guy to remedy the issue. The breakfast was subpar. The eggs were watery, muffins tasted like they were previously frozen and re thawed. The only plus were the waffles which you made yourself with batter from a machine. The ambiance of the outside looked outdated and dirty. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone!

Decent hotel to stay if you're catching a cruise from the port the next day. Definitely smaller beds than we expected and needs some paint / deeper cleaning. Staff were friendly and free breakfast was very nice
