Grand Anzac Hotel

I stayed here 1 night on an Intrepid tour. The room was standard although the air conditioner remote didn’t work so I had to climb up on the bed to use the controls on the fan unit (up at the top near the ceiling). Breakfast was the typical Turkish buffet.

Stayed overnight with a group tour on the way to Gallipoli. Hotel is in need of care with badly stained carpets, uncomfortable beds and very lumpy pillows. Rooms also had poor sound proofing, so I could hear the alarms going off non stop in other rooms from 3.30am. Shower was good and included breakfast ok.

We had booked the Anzac hotel and told on arrival it was being renovated so we had to go to sister hotel the Grand Anzac , we were a party of 5 , we had booked a triple room and a twin room , for five nights , we were told there was breakfast room but no restaurant but could bring drinks to sit in reception, there were no English channels as advertised and we ended up with one double room and a room with three singles , we were told we would be moved the next day, they then decided to push beds together in triple room and moved my aunties to a room and air con didn’t work so they had to move again , the rooms were ok but we opened the balcony door and all hair and fluff blew from under the beds , the lift smelt of damp and the light fitting was disgusting in there, on our second to last day we were told we needed to move again as work was being done the next day and drilling would start at 12 till 6pm so we had to move again , total 5 moves within 5 days between the two bookings , breakfast was ok but standard with the same thing every day , reception staff were friendly but breakfast staff spoke at a push butno smiles , very disappointing overall , carpets a hazard and most of bedding was stitched and all towels had holes in .

The pillows were not the fluffiest but they were more than adequate. Check-in was easy. The room was clean, tidy and had everything I needed for a 3 night stay. There was water in the mini fridge. The A/C was a blessing altough it would have been nice if it went a little lower than 18 degrees. The location was excellent, right in the centre of Cannakale, great for the shops, harbour & restaurants. House-keeping were on it every morning and the staff were very pleasant and engaging. Breakfast was more than ample, with traditional Turkish and a variation on continental options. The only downside I can think of was the music coming from across the rear courtyard which continued into the early hours. Closing the windows helped with the sound. This hotel is part of three, if you are thinking of booking go for this one as I believe it to be the best of them. There is the Comfort & the Anzac. The Grand is the best of the three and the price was very good. I think it was £24 per night for B&B.

Hotel is located on,y 250m from ferry pier. Central to shops, restaurants and waterfront walkway. We had room on first floor which was quite noisy as you can hear the noise fro restaurant and reception. The room was roomy, bed comfortable and a/c worked well. Bathroom a tad tiny but that is what we have found in most of the hotels we’ve stayed in Turkey. Another common theme is the strong cigarette smell coming through the a/c vents. Breakfast had ample selection and check out was 12pm. The reception area was very well air conditioned so it was extremely comfortable to hang around while we awaited for our pick up. Staff we encountered were pleasant and helpful.

I stayed at the Grand Anzac Hotel with my family in 2019 and we had a great stay, so I decided to stay here again while travelling Solo. I was in Canakkale for 3 nights and was in town to attend the ANZAC Day service at Gallipoli. The room was comfortable and spacious. Breakfast was included with my stay and there were plenty of options available to eat. The location of this hotel is excellent and everything is very walkable. The staff were also friendly and helpful. This isn't a 5-star hotel, but if you're looking for a clean and affordable stay in the best part of town then I would highly recommend the Grand Anzac!
