Hotels near The Playce in Berlin

The front desk was very welcoming, smoking together and helping to find slippers. The hotel is also very good, spacious, and the transportation is very convenient. Bus 200 and U line are both close. If you come to Berlin next time, I will stay here again. The price/performance ratio is really good.

I went to this hotel for a mid-week vacation with my lovely daughter. With an UBER it was about 10 Euro to get to the hotel. Check-in was smooth, the older man behind the desk wasnt overly friendly but rather efficient and that was fine. We paid the tourist-tax and got one room-key for our room. We paid online about 80 Euro a night and we got a room with three beds at the back. The room was clean and simple. A desk with a big-screen TV, a shower-room with a toilet and a wash-basin. The shower was ok but we didnt like the shower-curtains. Also the water would be warm for about five minutes but it didnt bother us. Everyday cleaning with new linen and towels. In the morning you can have breakfast but you have to pay for it. We didnt use it. The hotel is set conveniently in the middle of Berlin near Kurfurstenstrasse and Dam. Near the U-Bahn and busses.

Good location. Tall building that can be easily spot from anywhere of the city. (Easy to identify the direction to go back to the hotel) Have to pay eur 2 for luggage storage per day. Bathroom with curtain (no door), not that convenient for non couple.

Old-style hotel. Very cozy. Also very suitable for many people. The staff very accommodating. The rooms are large and well equipped. The breakfast buffet was always refilled and offered everything that makes a good breakfast. We felt very comfortable. S-Bahn and bus in the immediate vicinity

My main consideration for any hotel is the LOCATION, NEIGHBOURHOOD & PRICE. This hotel is very near to metro, easily accessible & walkable to major sites. It is very near to Gendarmenmarkt. There are many restaurants & convenient stores in the vicinity. We felt safe in the neighbourhood when we were outside late night. Based on the many reviews, i chose the 226 sq ft room, spacious enough for us, a couple w 2 large luggage. It was quiet even though the room was facing the main road. The room, shower & toilet were clean & functional. The room cleaned & towel changed daily. I would stay here again if I return to Berlin.

It's great that there is now the IntercityHotel next to the Steigenberger directly at the terminal 1/2 of the BER. It was opened only mid January 2023. The rooms are modern, practical and chic, like the most new or renovated Intercity Hotels. The staff is very friendly and engaged, some processes must certainly engage in a new team. You are just a few minutes walking distance from the terminal at the check-in, as well as at the airport train station with remote, regional and S-rail transport. Breakfast is available from 6:00 a.m., the light is available in the restaurant, there is a variety of breakfast offer. After my not so great stay in the nearby Steigenberger, the IntercityHotel Airport BER is recommended. I just hope guests will not confuse it too often with the IntercityHotel at the Schönefeld train station, the names of the two hotels is certainly not so great.

I chose this hotel as I was touring Berlin with a friend for a few days, but he was arriving a couple of days later than me. This proved to be a great option in terms of budget, distance from the city centre and proximity to public transport. Once you come up the steps from the U-Bahn at Siemenssdamm, it’s immediately to your right. The member of staff in the reception was warm and friendly and spoke very good English as my German is not very good after studying it a little at school 25 years ago. The room was large, very clean, and well-equipped. It was too warm for me, and turning the air con down didn’t help, but the window opens very wide. The bathroom also had a bath which was a bonus. The bed is firm which I really enjoyed, but I appreciate that won’t be to everyone’s liking. I’m sure I requested the room not to be serviced but the maid had been in every day. I didn’t use the TV but the Wi-Fi was a little patchy and slow at times. There is plenty of plug sockets including one near the bed. There was a soft light on the floor lamp and a desk lamp which was great. I had the buffet breakfast one morning, which had a great and varied selection of hot and cold food, this included cereals, bread, cold meats, cheeses, eggs, sausages, fresh juice, tea, and coffee. There is a supermarket across the road open till 10 pm, which was handy to get food for dinner. Yeah, it is quiet, and felt safe. I couldn’t hear any noise from any adjacent rooms. If I’m visiting Berlin in the future on my own, I will probably stay here again.

The hostel is very dirty. All the surfaces are sticky. There is a terrible stench in the rooms, toilets, corridors and lobby. Things forgotten by the previous tenants are lying around until they are thrown away by the current tenants. Mattresses are stained with brown stains, possibly menstrual blood (I was in the women's room). The pillows are crumpled and terribly uncomfortable. The beds stand so you can't fully open the window to air it out. The lobby is very noisy and smelly too, apparently there is no ventilation or it is blocked. Absolutely not recommended, even for 25€ a night! It's too much for this place.

This is not my first time staying at A&O Berlin. I have been there prior and immediately after the pandemics too. During this time, the quality of the service has been steady and a good one. The staff rather amicable and prompt to help with any issue you may have. Sometimes things do not work as expected (coffee machine, contactless purchases) but they will guarantee your stay is a smooth one. Breakfast is abundant and provide several options. I only wish the coffee could be better, but all in all is not bad. Also, maybe rooms could do with a bit of cheering up colour, besides the ones provided by the curtains. What I like the most about this hostel is the consistency with the chain principles and the fact that you will find all you need for a good stay, even tissues!

Honestly I don't like to leave bad reviews but I really don't have a choice here. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere our experience here was really poor. Where to begin, I originally booked two single rooms with a friend who cancelled. I took my boyfriend instead. I checked on the website and they had double rooms advertised to book for our dates. I contacted the hotel to ask to change to a double room I was informed to do this through booking.com. I called via booking.com who contacted the hotel whilst I waited on hold. The person informed me the hotel stated there were no Double rooms despite them being advertised on the website. I called on 3 occasions to try and change to a double pod however each time was Informed I cannot because none were available despite the fact each time they had them available to book on the website. When we arrived I enquired one last time and was told I could not do this as there were no double pods. Then miraculously moments later the man behind the desk found one, I was informed I would need to rebook and pay for this room and they couldn't let us swap the booking. This wasn't a good start and I found this really dishonest. The staff in general are very rude and dismissive. I usually enjoy staying in hostels and I am very used to budget accommodation and I am willing to make allowances when things are cheap but there is absolutely no sort of hostel type vibe no friendliness, and no common room to meet people or anywhere to sit or relax in the hostel. Honestly it's more of a morgue type vibe. I didn't have high hopes for the hotel as we made our way there it was not easy to reach via public transport from the airport we had to take 3 different trains. From the station you walk past a street that has a sort of homeless camp set up with mattresses on the pavement. We witnessed drug use as we walked past these guys too. As a woman I would not have stayed here if I didn't have my boyfriend with me as I genuinely would not have felt safe in the area around the hotel. The building you enter is dilapidated and it is difficult to find as it does not look like somewhere a hostel/hotel would be. The escalators are broken and not easy to climb, they are covered in cigarette and joint butts and at night this area smells very strongly of ****. Once you get past this I will say the actual inside of the place is better and it is cleaner. The concept of the hotel is bizarre and doesn't really work in my personal opinion. The pods are cramped and too hot. They are not easy to climb in and out of at all. Mine was actually broken and the plastic was starting to snap at the door which was also very annoying. The lockers we were provided were broken and we were never given different ones. The person who designed this place was far too Interested in the concept of a themed hotel rather than actual function of it for customers.
